Agreed. I assure you none of us will live to see the day where a US President is either an agnostic or atheist. Hell, even Jewish is pushing it, TBH. The Daily Show did a hilarious segment how one town in Texas made a movement in an attempt to get a Jewish lawmaker out of power. This is one aspect of U.S politics that really sadden me. I support and believe in utter seperation of state and religion.

The Europe and Canada are far less religious in general than the U.S. Not bashing religion as I am a devout Christian, but I think people take things the wrong way.
Not to preach, but just to prove my point. Jesus taught that the two most important things were to love God above all else, and to love others as ourself. Everything these people do goes against these teachings.
Back to the topic, it's not only religion. I believe moreso it's our need to belong to a group and become one with that group adopting the views of the group in spite of logic or personal ethics.

How are you going to separate religion from politics? People use religion as a lens to view their world. If someone goes against what they believe they aren't going to vote for them. It's Democracy. I just wish people would view each issue separately and form their own opinion.
It's rare to even see a Catholic President....

Everything these people do goes against these teachings. It's worth pointing out that the people who are the most vocal, idiotic and and unreasonably fanatical about their beliefs are almost always the least informed by the religions they purport to follow. Most right wing religious nuts in the U.S have zero actual understanding of Christianity goes against these teachings. Back to the topic, it's not only religion. I believe moreso it's our need to belong to a group and become one with that group adopting the views of the group in spite of logic or personal ethics. that's cause uneducated unthinking masses are sheep, easy to control and lead. Machiavelli would have a field day with U.S politics.

How are you going to separate religion from politics? Uh... By doing what we do in generally do in Canada (that is there have been some slip ups). Religion is a personal and individual thing. It is not something of the State and has not place in the important issues. Why? Because an individuals religion should have no bearing on how the entire population of the nation must be treated, that is: equally, impartially, fairly regardless of creed or religion. And so it is imperative state and religion be seperated.

Unfortunately I am almost too jaded by politics to care who gets elected. I haven't liked a major candidate in years.
I did somewhat like Ron Paul, but he's literally insane.

I am interested in politics. I follow them quite closely actually and discuss them regularly. I just think we are too far down a road to turn back and the best we can do is choose between the lesser of two evils and hope for the best.
Also I mean to separate religion from politics would require a change in mass thinking. It can't be governed or changed with laws. I don't know how you'd spur that change.

What laws? I'm interested. Perhaps we could implement similar methods. stuff like how our laws on free speech and our constitutions are worded. Here's an example: -Our charter of rights, specifically sections on equality of freedoms and right under the law (section 15). Since the state must be neutral, it can't have any religious denomination: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Section_Fifteen_of_the_Canadian_Charter_of_Rights_and_Freedomsthis for example is what permitted same-sex marriages to be officially recognized, legal and protected under law. Because otherwise would be discrimination.

What do you guys think of the court ruling in favor of that church that protests funerals and such? I think that's blatant abuse of freedom of speech and definitely falls under, at the very least, disturbing the peace.

Protesting funerals? WTH? That just seems wrong and incredibly rude.

Yup, Crom.
Erik, long story short, it's this small 'church' that protests assorted funerals of killed soldiers with signs like "The only good soldier is a dead soldier" "god hates fags" so on and so on.

Seems like a church that is trying to piss off both conservatives and liberals lol. Anti-soldier and anti-gay? That is an odd mix.

My thoughts are these assholes are lucky they don't live in Canada. Mind you the reason they are allowed to run amock is anyone trying to fight them is totally going at it the wrong way legally.

Why doesn't it count as hate speech is what I want to know.

Some promoted "God" hating on certain things, then others being flat-out anti-God LOL. Crom, it just goes against all common sense that the Supreme Court voted a huge majority in favor of them. I think it was like 6/7 judges or something. Absurd.
