You know, most of what I've read about the New Gods is actually Post-Crisis stuff. I've only read a little bit of Pre-Crisis stuff like Great Darkness Saga and some issues of New Gods.

I would say The Great Darkness Saga was more of a Legion of Superheroes thing. Not much of the New Gods. Most of it is just shows of a certain someone. Don't wanna give spoilers.

LOL, That cat got out of the bag some twenty years ago. You know what is sad about it? Even though he's in there for basically and issue or two, it's still the best characterization of Highfather in the last 25 years.

When is the last time he was shown best?

Well he had a few good moments in Jack Kirby's Fourth World and Vol 3, but overall that was so lukewarm I really would say GDS was the last time he was awesome.

Hell, I don't even know anymore. So much conflicting data it makes my freaking head hurt. Basically, yeah, he did destroy the universe with his damn mind. I would wish DC gave him a competent writer for an ongoing, just to give him some consistency finally. Who would you rather see writing him? (Yeah I took this from the Action Comic thread. Made sense to have it here.)

Presuming the question from the Action Comics thread refers to Uxas, Morrison writes a great Darkseid.

Yeah, should have made that more clear. I think Morrison respects The New Gods as much as he does Batman.

Well, his work has included them in pretty much every step of the way ever since his JLA run with Howard Porter, so I'd say that is a fair assumption to make.

Who would you rather see writing him? (Yeah I took this from the Action Comic thread. Made sense to have it here.) Me. ;D On a serious note, Keith Giffen (despite his self-proclaimed hatred for DS), and John Ostrander (the only writer during the nineties who got the New Gods) would be good choices. Morrison's stories about the New Gods are probably my favorite comics ever, but I seriously doubt he'd be able to carry an ongoing. Johns could probably make awesome stories too, but he'd probably end up changing a bunch of little bits and I'd end up blowing a gasket every time I thought about it.

Giffen hates Darkseid?

Giffen hates Darkseid? Read his blogs over at CBR (I think), he raves about him and calls for his death every other time. Mainly because he considers him overused as Hell, which I can't really disagree with.

I think I remember reading that Morrison put The New Gods in one of the other Earth Universes. Earth-51 I think.

Yeah, Earth-51 is to be the Kirby-world. I seriously doubt it'll last.
