I didn't like Beowulf movie.
The CGI thing was a pointless gimmick and the changes to the dragons origins was just to shoehorn in an Aesop that has nothing to do with Beowulf.

Robert Zemeckis does seem incapable of doing anything if it's not in stop motion cgi these days.

Writing is everything.
I cannot believe that Marvel will let Don Payne write this damn thing by himself. They need to hire a high quality writer or two and a serious high caliber director.

Marvel Studios has not failed us yet. We can still hold out hope that this will work out... somehow.

I thought Iron Man II was better than The Incredible Hulk, but I still agree that neither of them were that bad at all.

So far I think while doing s great job, Marvel Studios is just missing a little something that prevents their movies from being truly great entertainment (even iron man). What is the missing piece?
Heart pounding action. Action that is not cut short or over edited, and stuff that makes you go OH SHIT! This is something they could improve on in every one of their movies. Some are better than others, but with these characters they are using, it should be ridiculous.
We will see with avengers in 5 months, but I have a feeling that it will be far and above any other marvel studios movie in the action department as of yet.

The two most obvious instances (to me) being the Iron Man / War Machine vs. Whiplash battle in IM2 and the Thor vs. Destroyer battle in Thor. Both seemed very abrupt.

There isn't much space or reason for a lot of character development in a movie with half a dozen main characters, all of whom have already gotten some development in their own movies. With any luck, Joss Whedon has realized that and put a bit more into the budget for "making s**t go boom in an awesome way."

Damn. I was only kidding when I said she should not direct the movie. Marvel takes me too literally. But on a serious note, firing her because they were worried about her ability to meet a deadline when they do not even have a script is beyond ridiculous. That anonymous agent that said Marvel has an extreme arrogance to their attitude is not exaggerating at all if this rumor is true. And shit, a deadline is nowhere near as important as a quality movie, which I still think they are risking with their script writer even though he helped write the first movie.

I know what you're saying, but who really knows what the truth is? Some may take serious issue with some of the decisions Marvel Studios is making, but all I know is that the end results are generally very satisfying.

That is true. Marvel Studios has a solid track record on what they actually make.
Jenkins says she is leaving on good terms but she might just be a gracious person and does not want to burn a bridge. If Portman is pissed about it, it is possible Jenkins was getting screwed as the rumor suggests.

I'm sure there is more to the situation then we'll ever know. I'm certain that was also the case in regards to both Edward Norton and Terrance Howard. Most likely we are getting some hugely watered down story with large elements of truth. I seriously doubt that either Marvel Studios or Patty Jenkins want to burn any bridges though. It's still entirely possible that she had a very different vision for the film that was too far removed from the first one and the studio wasn't ready to make that kind of change to the established Thor movie-verse. That's where her possibly directing a non-sequel would come in. She would have (possibly) much more creative license and a hand in developing characters.

I think that is a possibility as well. But how would they be able to make that call when she has not been able to do anything yet? There is no script for her to go off of apparently and thus, no vision she could take action on that Marvel Studios would be able to question. It seems like they are making the decision based on the style she had used in previous films but if that is the case, why hire her for Thor in the first place?

She does have other work to use as reference for her ability, just nothing along the lines of what Marvel Studios does. They obviously see something in her that they like though. I think this is more about both parties just keeping the possibility of them working together in the future open than it is about them already having her in mind for a specific film.

Sounds about right. I wonder why Portman was included in the negotiations for Jenkin's "dismissal".

Might just be a case of one woman in Hollywood trying to stick up for another one.
