Earth One: Superman had me a bit jealous at the Young Adult of Steel. I enjoyed a more refreshing look at Superman.

Superman: earth one was a cool story, but I'm not sure it was a cool superman story and it had some big faults.
Lois Lane's characterization was a joke and the villain was completely two-dimensional. If he wanted to use the villain that destroyed krypton he should have used Brainiac. Also...considering the fact that Clark didn't even know that Krypton was destroyed until moments before it takes away all of the personal drama taht could have been.
Perry and Jimmy have never been cooler though

So do people see the powers Earth One has as the same as New Earth/Earth 0 Superman?
Because I'm reading it now. And I love his vision feat. Where he zooms in deeper and deeper to the atomic level. That was awesome!

I liked Earth One precisely because it's not the Superman story. If it was an official story I would barely be able to enjoy it because I'd constantly be occupied pointing out how stupid this or that concept is in relation to the overall mythos. Earth One was precisely made to avoid that, and I applaud it for the liberties it took with Superman's origin. I agree the villain was a bit two dimensional, but I'm glad they went with him instead of someone like Brainiac, or anyone else who had such an opportunity in the main continuity. I think it's an interesting twist. Lois was indeed bland though.
And Action comics rocks.

I don't think the vision feat is something NE Superman cannot replicate. He did the same thing during Identity Crisis.

I enjoyed Earth One. I wonder who the mystery villain that hired Tyrell is.

I'm guessing Brainiac, but then again he could have done it himself. Darkseid, but he could have done it himself.
It could be loads but they could do it themselves. So we could name that being, but brush it under the floor.
What are your thoughts on who it could be?

When I first read it for some reason I had this wild idea that it was Luthor using some weird time travel technique to kill off Superman from the crib before he could get the opportunity to become what he was destined to be. Luthor was my first thought as he is a man that hates Superman enough to go in such great depths to eliminate him, and he is arguably the most iconic nemesis Kal-El has.
Then again, he wouldn't want to endanger Earth itself in his attempt to kill Superman, but it is possible that he expected Tyrell to pull it off before it came down to that.
But to be honest, at this point I don't believe it fits anyone's modus operandi. Not Darkseid's, not Luthor's, and not Brainiac's. As you said, those guys could have done it alone, and visiting alien planets isn't Luthor's style.
Maybe JMS has a new villain up his sleeve?

It will probably be that latter. I'm guessing because Tyrell wasn't a weakling, technically speaking, that this unknown being will be very powerful.
Funny if it was the Time Trapper.

Maybe JMS has a new villain up his sleeve? I sincerely doubt that. Just based on the buildup. We wouldn't be having that if it was someone we never met before.

Its like The Great Darkness Saga when they saw shadows. The reason was we knew what Darkseid looks like.

I doubt it as well, but then again, I can't think of someone that would sensibly fit at the moment. Unless the villain is an established one with a new take to him.
