Do you play any instruments? Here we can discuss instruments, ask for tips from others on how to practice and even talk about purchases.
I will get the ball rolling. I do not play any instruments yet but I am seriously interested in an Archtop or Deadnought acoustic guitar.
Brands I have looked at have been Martin, Gibson and Cole Clark.
Anyone have any purchasing tips? I need to know what kind of wood is best for them. For a sound reference, listen to Jack Johnson (who uses a Cole Clark FL2AC) and Brandi Carlile (who uses some kind of Gibson model in most of the live shots I have seen her in).
I am looking on the wood and cheaper alternatives that can bring a similar sound.

I pluck and pick at strings on a guitar. Really just started gettin' into the game a couple years ago, and I'm very poor, so I don't have anything fancy or even know what would be fancy enough to buy.

My first guitar probably will not be anything fancy either, I just am looking for sound more than high priced stuff really.

It's a Harmony. My dad got it for me like a decade ago it seems, but it makes sound, so I'm cool with it. Price tag's still on it. $59.99.

I once tried playing the flute in music class. I sucked at it so I quit.

I've been playing guitar for about a year and a half now, and my brothers have all been playing for longer than that (save for my younger). I also used to play alto sax, and a looooong time ago I played ukelele hahaha. But lately I'm getting back into guitar. The hard stuff is just playing regularly enough to break in my fingers and toughen them up so they shred better and they won't hurt. I played for three hours yesterday, and I intend to play just as long tonight.

It's a pretty standard Fender Squire. It's not anything fancy, or expensive, but it's reliable and it's got a good sound. I want to get a better guitar (there's some absolutely beautiful Strats at my local music store) but honestly, "good" constitutes $800+ and as a student, I just don't have that kind of money.

Electric guitars, nice. Should have picked up on that when you said you shred.

Well, we also have a few acoustic guitars in the house (my brother has a Yamaha and my other brother has a different one) as well as two other electric guitars, but yeah, the Squire is the only one that I can say is "mine".
We also have a drum set and a bass guitar, hahaha. Despite not showing it that much at family gatherings, we're a surprisingly musical group of siblings.

I listen to a lot of acoustic type music though so I tend to gravitate more toward that type of instrument. I would like to eventually get an electric though.

911 tabs is a great resource. I wish more people would make tabs to songs I have, though.

That's how I learned how to play. I think the first song I tried working on was Disillusion's "Alone I Stand in Fires." Fun little thing, but yeah. Also, you might need a tab reader for some of the stuff there. I use Tux Guitar. Open source, can read guitar pro and power tab files, and it's good for when you get around to writing your own stuff.
