you think that Deadliest Warrior show is accurate at all? The information might be, but the fight itself is bias. I want to know whose bright idea was to but a pirate up against a knight and what poor bastard was willing to side with the knight on the show. As a history major myself, I choose not the watch something that is more bias than in it factual.

you think that Deadliest Warrior show is accurate at all? no. This show gets almost all it's facts wrong, has people actors playing experts. Draws the wrong conclusions based on incorrect, unscientific testing and doesn't show the least bit concern for historical evidence that actually prove the contrary to their assertions. It's beer and pretzel entertainment with close to zero worth on a factual level.

First off, the choice of weapons are their understanding of samurai was wrong on almost every factual level. What they were pitting their "viking" (I deliberately use these commas because that thing they called a viking was a parody) against was that fictional pop culture "OMG samuraiz are ta bestest honerabil warriars evar!". Their facts were all wrong.
The way they used the weapons was not how the warriors used them either.
The viking was a travesty, they basically dressed a dumb cartoon caveman in "viking clothes" and told us it was a viking, their historical facts were wrong, their assertions about their tactics were wrong. The way they talked about how their culture is was the cliffnotes, pop culture version.
Then there's the shield issue....
I think it would be easier for me to answer on each issue as asked by one of you then to post a long drawn out explanation of each. As it would take something like 3 pages easy.

I do not watch the show so I think I would like the entire 3 pages of explanation.
The only one I watched was the Apache warrior vs the Roman gladiator. I personally just took major issue with their 'program' and the constant dick measuring.

well, it's moreso the attitude and what is being said that the factual stuff. i'm not that knowledgeable in these two "warriors", but what some of the guys use as reasoning is fucking nuts.
that being said, some of it is impressive. shooting arrows into dude's eyes and chopping two and a half pigs in half? cool.

I do not watch the show so I think I would like the entire 3 pages of explanation. Well, to summarize the problem, what constitutes a samurai is not a single warrior and neither is a viking. Their cultures changed a lot as did their mores and tactics as well as weapons. Regional differences were also a big issue. The Vikings that settled Russia and eventually created the Kievan Rus evolved very differently from the vikings that settles northern France and mingled with the Franks there to become the Normans. Similar problem with samurai. There isn't a typical samurai. The early Heian and Asuka samurai was very different in mindset tactics and equipment to the latter Sengoky and Edo period samurai (and the Sengoku samurai was also very different from the Edo samurai). So they didn't really compare anything because they never told us what they were pitting against what, then they presented the parody version of the two contestants. This is also ignoring the fact that across the board vikings were not the violent war-hungry barbarians that they presented (not they they weren't violent, everyone was violent back then, or that war didn't have religious implications in their cultures) I guess to reiterate, what made it offensive was that not only did it use the pop culture cartoon version of what people imagine vikings and samurai were. But in addition they never actually made a comparison between two warriors from specific periods, just an amalgam of the things they think are cool across the board about them that fictional construct they think is a viking and a samurai. I mentioned the shield issue specifically, because in the high age of viking exploration. Vikings were very notable for their use of shields, yet the show ignored it (and because of that ignored the fact that samurai never faced an army with large shields as part of it's arsenal). On another note, the show is a dick mesuring contest with the announcers going Oooh and Aaah at how big the dicks of the contestants can get.

The fact that their vikings never used during the show despite their culture using them since the beginning of recorded history on them and the fact that samurai never faced large shield wielding warriors ever in their history. how were the vinkings`s tatics compared to the show`s? In the show, they made them as ravening charging barbarians when in fact not only were vikings much more disciplined then people think, but their tactics were actually a lot more like how spec op teams entering enemy land operate in the present. any problems with their weapons? no shield, no fucking bows (vkings were actually great believers in archery), no throwing axes, and more. how were Samurai`s tatics when compared to the show`s? They never presented an actual samurai from a specific period. When the tactics of samurai depend a lot by the era. They used weapons from different periods on the same warrior. They presented the cartoon pop culture version of their mindset and ignored the fact that samurai codes and mindset vary a lot by era. And the fact that they never actually took into account that samurai style of fighting wasn't like they presented it. any ridiculous ``off-character`` moment? Most of the fight. did they got at least one thing right? They succeed in proving to me that whoever writes this show is a moron.
