I understood most of this before I posted but let me ask this. You said that many greek myths were created by poets and weren't actually believed to be true, right? Most of the parts about rape in references to Zues are true though correct? Not all of them, many were seen as just stories. They did believe he was a womanizer and a philanderer. Like with Hercules's birth, however many of the worse stories were intended as metaphor and morality lessons. The Greeks also believed that their Gods were had their faults, they could be angry, petty and jealous. There was the thought of making a point. But it was also that they believed their gods as imperfect. Grand and majestic, but also petty and jealous. What I am wondering is why in most instances where Zues comes in contact with humans especially when it appeals to something sexual in nature he disguises himself to make a connection? Because all mortals would be annihilated if they saw his godly form. One myth explains that mortals cannot see the true form of the gods or they will die. Plus it serves his purposes to take other forms as it allows him to further his schemes. And when he just wants a free, no consequence f#ck. He'll take another form so the person doesn't know it was Zeus that fucked him/her/that. I guess after actually talking about it Greek Mythology doesn't seem very different from others. In the Old Testament the Christian God was petty and angry as well and even jealous at times. Not to assume that what's in the Bible is myth but who really knows right? I wasn't aware that humans could not look upon Zues. That explains why he always appears as an object or animal.

I am an atheist bordering agnostic. I don't give one mythology more credence then another. @data: thank you.

I don't really know where I fit with religion.Once upon a time I was a Christian.I can't make heads or tales of what path is the correct one or if I even have to chose at all.Anyway, thanks for not tearing into me for what I said about Greek Mythology. In all actuality I like Greek Mythology.(It's partly the reason I even read any Hercules and why I love Wonder Woman so much) I guess when it comes to how you feel about it, your attitude will be based on where you got the information and since most of what I know about the Mythology is based on what i've been told by people who have a distorted view of it, I guess I kind of have preconceived notions.

I don't really know where I fit with religion.Once upon a time I was a Christian.I can't make heads or tales of what path is the correct one or if I even have to chose at all. I believe there is right and wrong. Those haven't changed even if my religious beliefs have. Ultimately I do believe morality is not predicated on which religion you follow, only on how you act towards others. Anyway, thanks for not tearing into me for what I said about Greek Mythology. Why would I do that? I respect and like the people here. There is nothing wrong about not knowing something. I can't make heads or tails of theoretical ph, for example. Doesn't make me less as a person. Or anyone less for not knowing about history. What would make them less of a person would be an unwillingness to learn and a stubborn refusal to accept evidence or discuss a topic with respect and an open mind. And those kind of people aren't here on the ledger I guess when it comes to how you feel about it, your attitude will be based on where you got the information and since most of what I know about the Mythology is based on what i've been told by people who have a distorted view of it, I guess I kind of have preconceived notions. It's an unfortunate truth that what pop culture tells us is often very much a distortion and unfortunately, unless you do indepth research the truth won't be easily accessible.

I know what you mean about the Ledger. You just never know sometimes.I have such sh#tty luck with the type of people that post in forums.People who simply can't correct something if they believe or know it's wrong. They have to be assholes about it. Anyway though.I wanted to ask..big of a difference is Greek Mythology from Roman. They seem to have the same exact gods. You said that Mars was different from Ares..how so?

You said that Mars was different from Ares..how so? Basically, Ares was a god of chaos, dissent, pain, destruction as well as war. He was the negative aspects of war as well as the epitome perfect physical combatant. He was both skilled and a blood thirsty beserker. Mars was a god of warfare, conquest, he was also a god of law, victory, order. To the Romans, Mars went to war because by defeating barbarians, enemies of orders and terrible beasts, he secured peace for mortals. In other words, he was the opposite in personality to Ares. And also strangely enough a god of fertility who blessed the roman lands with crops, rain and plentiful herds.

Absolutely, Mars was the epitome roman soldier/general. He conquered the world and by doing so and bringing people under his order and rule, he could give prosperity and peace.

I plan on writing a story involving angels and am developing a reading list of books from apocryphal texts that really highlight some stuff. Know of any good encyclopedias or books to add onto?

Ah well. How about you give us the low down on Crom Cruach, then? I assume you think he's pretty awesome since you're using his name.

Crom-Cruach was the dark celtic deity of death, the underworld, winter and earth. He was a dark, hungry deity who demanded blood sacrifice to be appeased and for winter to end who fought many great heroes and was an all around badass.
