Lol from what? Nobody donates that much and there aren't any ads. I've seen some ads here and there on CV. I didn't actually question where the money was coming from. I used the very same site the check the revenue of other sites (Facebook, Myspace, Google, Yahoo, etc), and the figures seemed pretty spot on...

Yeah but all of those sites have ads everywhere. You understand where the money is coming from.

Yeah but all of those sites have ads everywhere. You understand where the money is coming from. I understand. But, CV has ads, too (I've seen them). Maybe not as much as the other sites, not to mention that those site are billions of dollars ahead of CV and have been around longer. I don't see why the figures for CV would be inaccurate. Like you said, you have ad blocker. I don't. LOL.

When the revenue said "CV" it probably meant "Whiskey Media as a whole", which includes Giantbomb, Screened, and Anime Vice, and together, they got a shit-ton of $50 subscriptions.
Hell, Giantbomb got 5000 alone. What's 5000 times 50? Beats me (haha) but it PROBABLY A LOT.

I think the other whiskey sites probably generate a LOT more revenue than Comicvine.

Lol from what? Nobody donates that much and there aren't any ads. I've heard various people complain about CV having ads, and one of the features in the paid accounts is that they are ad-free.
Which doesn't make any sense since I've never seen any ads either.I heard that as well. I actually laughed when they said that if you pay for the site, you do not have to worry about seeing ads. I only saw an add once and that was about a year ago when they were first trying out some ad system or whatever. Then I never saw one again. So to pay for something I was already getting for free got a nice little chuckle.

Comicvine doesn't have any pop up ads, but they have had background ads. For a while, the entire background was for Scion.
Charging your users to pay is a horrible idea that will undoubtedly cause loss of users. I think adding the option to donate is always a good idea though.
Some quick ideas for improving the site for potential eventual money generation through ads:
-The site should look more attractive -Font page -Links to google -On site Wiki -Community interaction aside from forums such as occasional contests and prizes -Possible expansion and personalization of user profiles (similar to CV) with a wall, abilities to upload photos, etc. -keep chat box -reviews, news -exclusive comicsledger interviews with the creative talents of comics/comic related things -possibly videos videos (reviews, discussions, etc)
-We should try to think of something that can set us apart from the rest. Something recognizable as exclusive to the comicsledger.
Some quick ideas. I'll come back with more when I think of any.

Oh, and what about this!? Giving the users the ability to rate things like reviews, videos, news, even stuff like Battle Threads! Good idea?

Oh, and what about this!? Giving the users the ability to rate things like reviews, videos, news, even stuff like Battle Threads! Good idea? I like that idea, assuming of course it's possible. I want to have a heavy emphasis on drawing attention to the Ledgers, and not just what we, the staff, have to offer them. Aside from Ledger of the month, I want a section of the homepage dedicated to member content we believe is worth checking out. For example, a good on-going debate, a creative thread, an elaborate and detailed wiki post, so on and so on. I think it's important for the staff never to get too 'important' for interacting with our fellow ledgers on a daily basis and praising that THEY'RE what makes the site great. That alone, should help us stand apart

Of course it all depends on what is possible with our budget/capabilities. I'm not sure we are capable of everything you've mentuioned Ckal....well not yet anyways, although those are great ideas to strive for

k4tz- Yeah , I completely agree that the main emphasis and focus should be on member recognition, interactivity, and so forth. This is sort of what comicvine started doing a few month back, although it was only what...maybe once a month at most?
Bill$- Yeah, I was just throwing out there everything that I had off the top of my head just to spawn some ideas or eventual goals like you suggested. Obviously some can be done sooner or later, depending if they are desirable to implement.
Btw, what is your CV name?
