I forgot to add something... This isn't to bash any new fans of Deadpool who like the version Way has molded. I have no right to tell anyone what they should or shouldn't like, I'm merely expressing my strong displeasure in the direction I've seen one of my former favorite characters take.

It's no different than me being a new DC fan and everyone disagreeing with me because of what's been done to some of their favorites. I can see exactly where they're coming from but they also need to have some lenience for those of us that are just getting started with particular characters.

Really well written, k4tz. You make a lot of good points. I admit that I'm not very familiar with Deadpool prior to the Way title and when I first started reading it, it caught my eye as something different, humorous and completely off the wall compared to everything else I read. I have enjoyed some of Way's story arcs, but for the most part there is nothing of substance. Also, I've noticed the last few arcs seem to have taken a huge nosedive. I've closed it a couple of times and said "I seriously paid money to read that?" Keep in mind that I don't even know much about how Deadpool was written before to compare this to, but I can still spot crap storytelling. I also read the entire run of Merc With A Mouth. I think it was a little better than the Way title, but not much. I wasn't real keen on the whole Zombie-headpool thing either and that was the focus of the entire run. By contrast, I thought Suicide Kings was brilliant and I absolutely loved it. I also like the way Rick Remender is handling Deadpool in Uncanny X-Force so there is definitely hope for the character.
By the way, if you can point me in the right direction of some good Deadpool TPB's I'll add them to my to-buy list. Always looking for something good to read. Thanks bro and again, great article.

"Really well written, k4tz. You make a lot of good points. I admit that I'm not very familiar with Deadpool prior to the Way title and when I first started reading it, it caught my eye as something different, humorous and completely off the wall compared to everything else I read." Thank you. I'm not sure if you started reading before the update, but I added something at the end just to elaborate that this is by no means looking down on new fans of the character, but just expressing how much I personally dislike the changes. " I have enjoyed some of Way's story arcs, but for the most part there is nothing of substance." Exactly! It's pure comedic value, which is why I think he's well-suited for short-runs with an emphasis on comedic entertainment. Considering Wade is a character I love, I want to see him continue to develop and take part in excellent stories...Not just laugh once a month. "Also, I've noticed the last few arcs seem to have taken a huge nosedive. I've closed it a couple of times and said "I seriously paid money to read that?" " Right when I saw promotional work for Hit-Monkey I said "fuck this" and refused to continue. That's just a blatant slap in the face to comic fans. Seriously, he took the Hitman character and just said "What if he's a monkey?" Meanwhile, other writers work hard to create legitimate characters... "Keep in mind that I don't even know much about how Deadpool was written before to compare this to, but I can still spot crap storytelling." Good to know you recognize it's pure entertainment and no substance "I also read the entire run of Merc With A Mouth. I think it was a little better than the Way title, but not much. I wasn't real keen on the whole Zombie-headpool thing either and that was the focus of the entire run." I read the first issue and had no interest. But I agree, from what I saw it was better than Way's. "By contrast, I thought Suicide Kings was brilliant and I absolutely loved it." It makes me very happy to hear you say that. I loved Suicide Kings and I'd love to see Benson (the writer of that) get a shot at the mantle of the on-going Deadpool title. " I also like the way Rick Remender is handling Deadpool in Uncanny X-Force so there is definitely hope for the character." I need to catch up, but so far he seems good. "By the way, if you can point me in the right direction of some good Deadpool TPB's I'll add them to my to-buy list. Always looking for something good to read." Marvel created their equivalent of 'Essentials' for Deadpool called 'Deadpool Classics' Volume 1 is a must read if you want to see his very first showings. It includes his first appearance, first two short runs (Fabian N and Mark W) and the first issue of Joe Kelly's run. Vol 2 then collects more of Joe Kelly's volume (I believe #2-8, good stuff!) and Deadpool/Daredevil: Annual (a good one-shot). So, yeah, to see the Deadpool I'm babbling about, that's definitely a good starting point ;D "Thanks bro and again, great article." Thank you! It's always nice to receive feedback. Otherwise, how do I know if we should keep putting forth the effort?! LOL

I think where there taking Deadpool is good, I like the other voices and it's been shown that it can work well eg: Deadpool: Suicide King, Team up and others but only when writen properly. Marvel at the moment is pretty much revamping ever character some are good Venom (Flash) and are not so good (can't think of one off the top of my head but I'm hearing a lot about currant Moon Knight). Way's run of Deadpool is entertaining but that's it, there is no character development or emotional depth (he just needs to work hard to me it's seems like lazy writing and I'd like nothing more then to see someone take over that run.)
But completely agree k4tz and I think everyoen here will.
And what was the F***ing!! deal with Hit-Monkey! worst arc ever.....

Like I just told Norcal, "Deadpool Classics 1" & 2 are a good spot to start. It's a cheap way to read a lot of his earlier issues. That volume is pretty cheap too. I think I saw one going for just $13 on amazon.

"think where there taking Deadpool is good, I like the other voices and it's been shown that it can work well eg: Deadpool: Suicide King, Team up and others but only when writen properly." It certainly makes for some interesting scenarios, but I dislike how out of nowhere they just wanted to step up his mental instability to that degree. He's not that crazy and I wish they wouldn't treat him like that "Marvel at the moment is pretty much revamping ever character some are good Venom (Flash) and are not so good (can't think of one off the top of my head but I'm hearing a lot about currant Moon Knight)." I don't see a revamp for Deadpool in the immediate future, unfortunately. "Way's run of Deadpool is entertaining but that's it, there is no character development or emotional depth (he just needs to work hard to me it's seems like lazy writing and I'd like nothing more then to see someone take over that run.)" Exactly my problem with it. I don't want to follow a title just to laugh every month. I want to become involved in the story, care for the characters, etc. It's pointless if you know it's just popcorn entertainment each time. "But completely agree k4tz and I think everyoen here will." Thank you. I'm more than open to discussing this with anyone who disagrees, of course. "And what was the F***ing!! deal with Hit-Monkey! worst arc ever..... " LOL.

My opinion on deadpool when he came up before he was turned into the joke character he is now: 1-Unnecessary 2-Unoriginal 3-Not very interesting but not bad per say
Opinion of how he is now: Hate him, have no respect for him.

I loved the fight with Iron Fist. The Deadpool/Iron Fist team up was awesome! katz- I haven't read the article yet but you obviously put a great deal of time into it. I'm heading off to bed soon (long day at work), so I'll have to go through it tomorrow.

"It certainly makes for some interesting scenarios, but I dislike how out of nowhere they just wanted to step up his mental instability to that degree. He's not that crazy and I wish they wouldn't treat him like that" I know, no explanation, nothing and half the time I can't tell if there's two or three voice's. "I don't see a revamp for Deadpool in the immediate future, unfortunately." What I meant was, current Deadpool is the revamp. Deadpool is now trying to become a hero (I know he has tried before but never this hard) and the voices. It's not a major revamp but I don't think were going to see anything like Classic Deadpool or C&D ever again. "Exactly my problem with it. I don't want to follow a title just to laugh every month. I want to become involved in the story, care for the characters, etc. It's pointless if you know it's just popcorn entertainment each time." Agreed.

What we need as fans, and Deadpool as a character needs, is Joe Kelly back on the job. Fabian Nicieza is a fan favorite as well, obviously.

ckal, the funny thing is I didn't really have the article planned out. I literally just typed it on the fly while multi-tasking at work ;D Norcol, no worries! Crom, we're well aware But what about points discussed in my article? Mav, I think Deadpool put forward a very good effort to the whole hero thing towards the last 75% of C&D.

Sometimes it just works that way man, let the words flow.
Deadpool made a big effort to be a hero in the classic Joe Kelly run as well. Remember Mithras (of course you do)?
