Great article. Agreed 100%. People used to quote Deadpool. THat's how awesome he used to be. Now he's just an annoying clown Marvel uses to earn money.

Deadpool is a very one dimensional character. If his existence had the least bit of impact on the Marvel U..there might be a good reason for him to have a comic.Deadpool is a supporting cast character IMO.He always has been which is why I feel like Uncanny X-Force and Cable & Deadpool were his most tolerable books. In fact I would even go as far as to say that Cable & Deadpool is a great series.Alone I just don't see the significance of his existence. If you go back and retcon him out of the Marvel U.Virtually nothing would be different. With Marvel doing events one after another for the last 5 years...He doesn't really seem to fit anywhere. It's like they are forcing him in to hold on to what popularity he has left.

A characters existence shouldn't be questioned or measured by his impact on the marvel universe, any character can have a comic if there liked enough.

A characters existence shouldn't be questioned or measured by his impact on the marvel universe, any character can have a comic if there liked enough. There is nothing to read the comic for.Nothing that happens in his comics really matter. They made it so he can't die and he's a joke character so he could break the forth wall or reality whenever he wants. Why would someone want to read about a street leveler that is phased by nothing? Even powerhouses like Hulk,Iron Man,Thor etc. have the element of suspense and danger in their comics because they have villains that could possibly take their life away. The element of danger is taken away in Deadpool. Unless you are reading the book for the comedy..there is no real reason to read it. Any character can have a comic if they're liked enough..that's true, but that doesn't mean that the comic is going to be popular. After a while when people see there's nothing of significance going on they will stop reading it.A characters worth shouldn't be measured by their impact on the Marvel U, I like alot of characters that are C,B & D list but the fact of the matter is the most popular books are the ones that make some lasting mark on the Marvel Universe. That's why Avengers,X-men,Thor,Hulk,Captain America,Spider-Man,Wolverine,& Iron Man have always topped the charts and that's always been Marvel's A-list.

I completely agree. I noticed a shocking difference in Cable and Deadpool in the last few issues when Cable was no longer part of the series. It was significantly inferior to the entire series before it.

I completely agree. I noticed a shocking difference in Cable and Deadpool in the last few issues when Cable was no longer part of the series. It was significantly inferior to the entire series before it. Very true. It felt extremely unbalanced without Nate. Together, they were a perfect fit. Without Cable, the book was dragged heavily into comedy, and I simply didn't finish the last 2-3 issues.Daredevil is inarguably one of Marvel's most popular characters (along all the guys and teams you named), with a lasting book for over 45 years in a row, yet his book (or the character) has barely been involved in anything when it comes to the larger picture of the MU. In fact, most of the time, his book doesn't even acknowledge events that are happening simultaneously. Civil War (even though he was in the core book), HoM, Secret Invasion, all happened and it didn't even reflect on him in any real way (that's something I feel is for the better, mind you). You could say he's an exception to the rule, but for all the good he has done on a personal level, retconning him off the MU wouldn't mean much would be different. The Kingpin would likely rule Hell's Kitchen unopposed, but that would be about it.

The point I was making about Marvel's events and his impact on the Marvel Universe was this...Deadpool has been in every event since Civil War, yet just like in his books.Nothing of significance happened as far as his character is concerned. He didn't gain any new powers,he didn't defeat anyone particularly powerful,he didn't create a big memorable moment. He was just there. So I guess what I was getting at is that the way Marvel is going right now..Deadpool isn't going to be able to survive because he's not as big a character as someone like Daredevil.DD can afford to miss Civil War,or Secret Invasion etc. because he doesn't need the boost.Deadpool does.
My other point was that these events may get you to start liking Deadpool after reading his appearances but when you read his actual book and he's fighting a bunch of forgotten D list villains, and he's making a mockery of heroes because the person who's writing the book is trying to make him look better by comparison, and none of his stories seem to go anywhere..you aren't going to read it.Daredevil has had HUGE arcs in Vol.2 one after another. The Murdock Papers,Devil In Cell Block D,The Devil Takes a Ride,Without Fear,Cruel & Unusual,Lady Bullseye,Return of the King and then his own event Shadowland. You will NEVER get that from a Deadpool comic. You will never get a "most memorable moment in comics" from characters created for a Deadpool book (Elektra & Bullseye). When was the last time something happened in a Deadpool comic that was exciting? That made someone want to read? When was the last time Deadpool's books spawned a great character? You get what I mean?
Basically what I am saying is if Marvel wants Deadpool to be popular they need to first get him some good villains, take away that bullshit "I can't die" curse, give him a better supporting cast (They completely ruined Agency X), and start making some story arcs with a point to it.All the Bob: Agent of Hydra antics, and the owning of shitty villains that everyone can beat, and the relationships with characters like Outlaw,Copycat and Siryn who nobody gives a fuck about have to stop.

Finally read Suicide Kings....didn't care for it that much TBH. That's surprising. I seriously think it's the best Deadpool story in awhile. Still glad you read it though.
