That's a stab for my post in Red Robin vs Ana Runnawayfrombattlesoff, right? Don't flatter yourself. I couldn't resist taking a jab at Slade's misfortune You evil, evil man.

i have no emotion invested in DCU so i can only hope that DCU gets something positive out of this while not being upset at the change.
and that the characters are written the way i remember them being at the power levels i enjoyed them at when i was younger.

Batman, Superman, Flash, Wonderwoman, Green Lantern Year one. no superboy, impulse, wonder girl, kyle, tim, damien, Cass. Wonder Woman will be erased completely and Superman's ship will have flown into the sun by mistake. Batman will have stopped the robber in the alley as a child, thereby saving his family and grew up to be a political celebrity. Come now, they're not stupid. They're not going to erase characters bringing them money. All the characters will still be around. They'll simply have changes compared to the original continuity. Most will probably simply be streamlined in continuity.

Someone go assassinate Geoff Johns. Right. Now. Seriously, his obsession with retcons must now influence the entire continuity of DC as a whole? Because that won't upset fans or anything.... I wonder how long this will last. My guess it will run for a few years and be undone, but considering this is Johns at the forefront, the retcon may be permanent. Maybe.

I'll reserve my final verdict until I see the end product, though I do feel like they do retcon far more than they should lately.
From what I remember, there were plans of doing something like this way back with Crisis on Infinite Earths (all titles rebooting to issue one, that is), but they decided to stagger it, which lead to a lot of the mess that DC had in the 1980s and 1990s.

Er, they DID do that with Crisis on Infinite Earths. They did not renumber the issues, but they completely rebooted the continuity and started from scratch.

Crisis rebooted continuity, yes, but the full plan, from what I read, was a total reboot, with everything starting from issue 1. Thus, John Byrne's Man of Steel (which revamped Superman) would happen at the same time as Batman: Year One, which would happen at the same time as Wonder Woman's reintroduction to the DC Universe. Instead, the revamps were staggered, which lead to continuity glitches which needed to be ironed out with Zero Hour

Personally I don't see anyone at DC having the actual balls to make worthwhile changes.

Personally I don't see anyone at DC having the actual balls to make worthwhile changes. of course not, the old dogs that use to make permanent changes are now dead or long gone. now all we have are snot nose kids who change stories periodically as soon as they replace another writer or editor

On the plus side, this might make enough fans abandon DC and move to Top Cow.

Top Cow is cool but i havent read anything new in over half a decade, i have like a box and a half of their old stories when the company first started off kept up with 2 to 3 years of their stuff.
Only thing i remember thinking is that i wish they expand their universe.

Well, if you need suggestions. Top Cow is my favorite american company at the moment.
And let me tell you something. It has gotten a lot better in quality in all aspects since it founding, especially storytelling which was uneven in the beginning.

UPDATE
Geoff Johns and Jim Lee will collaborate for the first time to bring fans "Justice League" starting on issue #1, to be released August, 31. Will also release digital copies of their books at the same time paper books are released. August 31 will have 52 new titles starting with #1 released. More than 50 new costume designs.
Quote: The first book to be released under this new era: Justice League No. 1, out Aug. 31, a series by writer Geoff Johns and artist Jim Lee that reunites the famous lineup of Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Wonder Woman and Aquaman.
Johns promises a focus on the interpersonal relationships within DC's trademark superteam. "What's the human aspect behind all these costumes?" he says. "That's what I wanted to explore."
In September, more than 50 more first issues will debut, introducing readers to stories that are grounded in each character's specific legend but also reflect today's real-world themes and events. Lee spearheaded the redesign of more than 50 costumes to make characters more identifiable and accessible to comic fans new and old.
"We looked at what was going on in the marketplace and felt we really want to inject new life in our characters and line," says Dan DiDio, who co-publishes DC with Lee. "This was a chance to start, not at the beginning, but at a point where our characters are younger and the stories are being told for today's audience."
USA Today
Quote: On Wednesday, August 31st, DC Comics will launch a historic renumbering of the entire DC Universe line of comic books with 52 first issues, including the release of JUSTICE LEAGUE by NEW YORK TIMES bestselling writer and DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns and bestselling artist and DC Comics Co-Publisher Jim Lee. The publication of JUSTICE LEAGUE issue 1 will launch day-and-date digital publishing for all these ongoing titles, making DC Comics the first of the two major American publishers to release all of its superhero comic book titles digitally the same day as in print.
DC Comics will only publish two comic books on August 31st: the final issue of this summer’s comic book mini-series FLASHPOINT and the first issue of JUSTICE LEAGUE by Johns and Lee, two of the most distinguished and popular contemporary comic book creators, who will be collaborating for the first time. Together they will offer a contemporary take on the origin of the comic book industry’s premier superhero team.

That's a lot to wrap one's head around in a single day. It's almost surreal to believe.
As for the JLA creative team (and Lee's involvement in the redesigns in general) I am pleased.
