Erik-El I will say I agree with crom in so far as in my opinion the writers I consider to be great at their craft ( Roy Thomas, Grell, Wolfman, Ostrander etc) they make changes to characters by actually building on what was done by other writers before instead of pulling down. When major changes happen to a character under these writers ( like say Ollie becoming a killer then exploring his role in the world under Grell) it is a character development that is logical growth and change based on events they've had to deal with. This is how I would like to see all retcons handled

My 2 Cents...
As aggravating as it is to see every DC book restarted with issue 1, I am not wiling to scream "This is bullshit!" and stop collecting. Anyone who does this without seeing without reading the books first is not giving DC a chance to prove it knows what it's doing. Just think of what would have happened if all the Superman fans dropped the book once they heard John Byrne was going to reboot the character, or what the seven people reading X-Men stopped reading when they heard Claremont was retooling the title all those years ago.
I will not say that I will stay with any of the new DC titles I don't like. Anyone who knows me and my reading interests will know that I will pick up and drop books when I don't like them or they start getting interesting (case in point, I dropped X-Factor when it was announced that Larry Stroman, who's particular art style I dislike, was returning to do the art on the book). I even gave Brubaker a chance with Captain America to see what they were going to do with Steve Rogers so unceremoniously killed (at least "lost in time" worked for Batman since he was "killed" by Omega Beams).
I do have to admit that the only time I dropped a book forever was the mainstream Spider-Man titles after OMD, mostly because the story was so insulting. Quesada's comments about the whole thing did not help any either. To this day, I still don't read any Spider-Man titles other than Ultimate Spider-man... oops, forgot, he got killed.

I still have my doubts Ultimate Spider-Man is dead.

chyrondave: honestly, I've found stuff much closer to my taste, even if the books proved good. I don't think I could ever go back to traditional super-heroics Erik-El: Was there even a body?

So we never saw his body? If that is the case then imagination land rules say there's no proof of death

@crom-Cruach - It seems that you left superhero comics a while ago. My comment was directed more towards the alarmists who are already looking to cancel subscriptions without even seeing what the book is about.

@crom-Cruach - It seems that you left superhero comics a while ago. My comment was directed more towards the alarmists who are already looking to cancel subscriptions without even seeing what the book is about. Not that I have any subscriptions. But I have courtesy of DC absolutely nothing to cancel. Absolutely everything I collect no longer exists after the re-launch. I fully intend to check out a few titles, but I haven't been a Bat fan for over 15 years (I just hate the "Prep god Batman)", and a Superman one for over 20. The JLA has also been MEH to me for quite some time. Really doesn't leave much for me to read does it. If this 52 is all that's going to be than someone who doesn't like at least those three concepts is going to be excluded from MOST of DCnu. I'll check out Aquaman, GL, JL Dark, and a few others, but really DCnu is offering very little for me to "start" reading, and has left me nothing to cancel. I've stuck through several titles over the past few years that I actually didn't like because of the treatment characters I love were receiving ( GA/BC, DP, JSA, JSA All Stars to name a few). I've even picked up titles of characters I long ago gave up on. In almost 4 decades of collecting I've had so many of my favorite characters either killed or replaced or changed into characters I don't like So I don't have to see "what the books about" there isn't a book to see. Out of all the 52 titles there are less than a dozen characters I like actually officially in DCnu. I actually am a perfect example of DC waving their "dick" in my face. . Yet I still keep coming back, the line in the sand is however getting a lot closer.
