This thread is for discussion on all things in the Ultimate universe. Past, present, and future.
First on the agenda for me is to discuss the Ultimate Comics Ultimates 02 issue and be warned, there are spoilers in this discussion. That was one hell of a read. This is a great display of what Reed would do not only if he goes bad, but when he actually goes bad and DOES shit about it.
He creates and entire city and evolves the inhabitants through a 1,000 years and they are creepy little villains. It seems that the citizens are immortal since the first inhabitants are alive after the 1,000 span as well as Reed himself. Though his face is mostly masked so there is no telling how old he really looks.
The issue was a trip. Reed actually killed the gods. For real this time. Thor has no connection to his godly powers. Since all the gods are effectively human and fell from the heavens once the Asgard and the Tree was destroyed and only Thor was seen being saved, I guess we can assume he is the only survivor aside from his son.
How doe everyone else feel about that? Or maybe someone wants to weigh in on the new Spider-Man? Or even the X-Men? The Ultimate Universe sure keeps itself busy.

Don't have time/energy to really get into it, but Ultimate Spider-Man is good. I feel like comparing it to the original Ult Spider-Man or Invincible. Just good work being done all across the board (I'd say the art in this book killed those other two though. Lines, colors and layout are all amazing in this). I want more of this character and his problems, his feelings, and his relationships. I like that the idea of being spider-man is such a different thing than when Peter first put on the suit thanks to the whole mutant thing going on in the UU as well as the personal things Miles has going on.
As for Ultimates, I like it, but I feel like I've seen accelerated time too much in recent history. I don't know if I actually have, but it feels like it. I love Hickman's ideas and that he'll go places with them, but I don't want to see him start repeating himself or anyone else. I'm recalling him doing it with the Future Foundation (I'm not sure if him basically carrying over the FF concept, or at least parts of it, is something I find interesting or bothersome) and Aaron doing it with X-Force. There may have been others, dunno.

Now that you mention it, I do recall the accelerated time plot to be used a lot. Strange.
But I agree with you on Spider-Man. I love the new direction. It is fresh, the art is good and Miles is a very likable character for only 3 issues. But I still very much am disappointed they killed Parker. I would have preferred he just retired or Fury faked his death or whatever.

I haven't gotten to the Ultimate Spidet relaunch yet, since I caught up with events pre-DoSM, DoSM, and post-DoSM a few days ago (competently done, but too much of an Ultimate Six rehash, really), but I read the Ultimates and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It finally feels as if we'll get a successor to Millar's first two volumes, not thematically, but in terms of quality, since Millar himself never managed to even come close to hitting the same notes in his subsequent efforts (just about everything felt flat to me), and I'm not touching Loeb's stuff.
I agree we've seen accelerated time frame within certain environments a bit too much recently, and the villainous angle is a bit too similar to the FF that Hickman himself initiated in the 616 Universe, but as long as he keeps writing as wel as he did I'm not going to complain. I'm not sure how people who haven't read Ultimate Doom, and/or Ultimate Fallout will respond to it, since two important plot points (Ultimate Reed and the FF, Cap quitting the Ultimates) either occurred, or were dealt with in detail there.
Oh, and give Iron Man an actual armor instead of the movie rip-off junk.

I've barely read any Ultimate stuff since Ultimatum, but I think I should get back into it. I briefly glanced through an issue or two of the title dealing with the disbanded-but-kinda-trying-to-regroup X-Men, and it interested me.

Ultimate X-Men has always been my least favorite Ultimate series. I just never got into it very much. I still have to read Ultimate X.

I've refused to touch the ultimate universe since the rape of Ultimatum

I've refused to touch the ultimate universe since the rape of Ultimatum Ultimatum itself was poorly executed but it did give Marvel the excuse to take Ultimate universe in a completely different direction from the 616 universe. Up until that point, all the Ultimate stories were "updated" versions of the 616 equivalents. Like Clone Saga, Galactus, Apocalypse, the Skrulls, etc etc etc. Now most of the character dupes are wiped out and completely original (and sometimes not so original) characters are being introduced.

I honestly can't speak for the stories post Ultimatum except in the roughest sense and speaking of reading articles on such and what I'm told. Since I haven't read them. I loved the ultimate universe when it came out. When I picked it up, it was a breath of fresh air for marvel. So many things I liked. But it was also at a time when my boiling points for comics were coming and I was slowly reaching my limit on how much asshatery I could now tolerate in my comics. Ultimatum was one of the clinches that made me drop marvel. It's petty, and I'm sure I missed out on good stories. But all and all, I just feel that if I were to give any money to a marvel product it would be forgiving their crimes against comics *deliberate over dramatic comic for emphasis*

To each their own. I think their stories are really good now. Spider-Man is only 3 issues in starting tomorrow but I think it is going well. I am not really into Ultimate X-Men stuff but I am liking adventures with Kitty, Iceman and the Human Torch now that they are not affiliated with the X-Men.
Characters I would love to see more of are Ben Grimm, Sue and Jessica Drew. I still have no idea how Jessica felt about Peter's death.

Well as long as you're enjoying what you are reading then that's what's important. I'm loving what I'm reading these days

Now is actually the perfect time to get back into it due to it being a new beginning for a new character. The new X-Men issues are pretty great too. They deal with all of Parker's powered friends as they try to stay under the government radar and live in the Morlock tunnels.

I hadn't really consistently read a comic series prior. I had read minis, some arcs, TPBs, etc. But I first started consistently reading that series. I was said when it turned to crap.

Spider-Man is by far the superior series. I always thought that. In fact, I thought Ult Fantastic Four was better than Ult X-Men. Too early to tell with this new series though but it seems to have some promise just two issues in.

Became utter crap around 70. Spat in my face terrible by 80. Rage-inducing by 90. By 100, it was just "well, it's ending at 100. I've stuck with it this far...."
