Thor is limited by plot. It's why in recent books he can universe hop simply because he is a god, have a conversation with Alter-Ego with a fragment of his life essence convincing him to stop his madness while shattering multiple mountain sized segments of Ego from entering the Earth and in another book literally use the Astral Plane to reveal he can take you into various alternate futures to give you a global warming PSA or just super charge Mjolnir by commanding it to return and punch a hole through an individual.
Plot is put aside.
And non of these help him in this battle.
But feel free to list them all out specifically if you think it helps.
Last ten years might be a little bit of a stretch, he was mentioning his divine trans-formative energies as recently as Iron Man Thor #4:

So he calls it 1 thing but it appears to act and look rather like lightning.
As Ironman absorbs it as well, it must be an energy form he can absorb.
I suppose I could call electricity a divine transformative energy as it does empower life and as such is a difference between dead and living....hence being transformative and divine.
As he does not directly use it to accomplish a feat other than to empower Ironman, I don't see how it plays a part in this battle.
And to an extent his return was heralded by remaking his fellow Asgardians after their deaths, a process he repeats with Lock.

Even if you don't consider any of this transmutation, it still works well with "Thor is just as much of a plot device as he was decades ago".

Yep. He can find and transform the vessels of Asgardian souls.....
Shame WW is not Asgardian.......so basically it's worthless in this battle.
So back to being a plot device......
Worthy Thing was effectively destroyed by Thor in moments during their fight:

The Thing spent the rest of the fight bleeding to death till Franklin undid the Serpent's mojo and restored him to his normal state. What doesn't make much sense was Thor not repeating this maneuver with the Hulk and deciding to simply smash his face in for a few pages till the space/time gash wound exhausts him enough to send the Hulk into orbit rather then continuously beat on Nul.

The Hulk is too durable for it to have worked.
You make my case for me.
He beats the Thing up despite all these other abilities, like the ability to use divine transformative energies or the ability to cancel and absorb magics.....so he puts the Thing, a friend, at deaths door simply because he fails to employ any of these other powers.
And I doubt chains would hold either of them down.
The point is he did not even try any of these others powers in his arsenal.....instead he hit them.....repeatedly. It goes to show that despite being under duress, he did not employ any other powers in a significant way.
I'd agree wholeheartedly with neither of them being physically stronger than Thor, albeit the only times I saw the Sentry do any damage was when the Void was in control amping him to hell. Outside that one punch from Thor BFRed him. Although given the Surfer was able to stop Mjolnir mid swing on physical strength alone(his two hands vs Thor's one) and the beating he was giving the Hulk on base stats alone on Sakaar, he isn't physically too far off at current levels post annihilation. And given Thor not holding back floored Gladiator I'd also say he is significantly stronger than him too. The Hulk fights never make any sense. Fighting folks that are physically stronger or vastly above his own power is something the character regularly does and usually pulls wins off to boot. (He'll I'd bring up Odin hopping into the Destroyer, wielding the Odin Sword and proceeding to pummel Thor, then banish him, but I'm unsure if it's canon).
Gladiator has performed well against Thor in the past.
There are not that many beings outside of true cosmic powerhouses that are above his strength level (exceptions being Magog, Kurse and Count Nefaria).
However, with the potential exception of Nefaria, these other 2 are brawlers.
Even Nefaria, with his great speed, is not as fast as WW and possesses only a fraction of her hand to hand skill....and simply put, with the possible exception of Magog, none of them are close to being as strong as WW.
Power level is a different concept to rate an opponent on, separate to strength and so plays no part in this fight.
I'd agree, Thor holding back has the awful habit of getting knocked around and losses to folks he can steamroll with any effort. Then in another issue he goes up against folks that devour pantheons (wonder how his reunion with his half brother in Mighty Thor 9 will pan out) or are the embodiment of pantheons like Glory. So it's very much on the table she can floor him if he starts off with his usual mentality and doesn't decide to let loose after getting hit and realizing she can hurt him.
As a Marvel character he can punch far above his weight class thanks to the power of Mjolnir. Without it he is basically equivalent to Hercules in terms of characteristics. In his fight with Glory he employs the Godblast. Without it looked like he might have been screwed. Mjolnir make the difference because it has deadly attacks but again this highlights that he does not use such as powerful attack unless faced with no alternative, as shown in his encounters with Exitar or Galactus or Glory. And the first 2 of these could have swatted him like a bug if they had chosen to.
He knows of Galactus and he knows of Exitar. He does not have any knowledge of WW to Mae that decision and based on his usual pattern, he won't employ the full power of Mjolnir until the last.
By dialing it up to 11? Then get a beat down from Hercules, She Hulk and Iron Man!
Superman's dial was already set to 13!
