I did not intend to suggest we include breakdowns of individual powers, that would be exhausting and nearly impossible. I just wanted to include more quantitative data than just those derived through physical characteristics. There is quantitatively no difference between lifting something with your muscles and lifting it with your mind so they should be listed on the same grid. What you describe with Magneto is simply a question of energy manipulation, Magneto is a better energy manipulator than Polaris. We needn't divide it into magnetic control because at its core, magnetic control is simply energy manipulation. I suggest that we break a power down to its component parts. Cyclops and Magneto are both energy manipulators/projectors and comparing their overall power output should tell us whether or not Cyclops can breach Magneto's force field or not. I don't know if that answered your question or not. You didn't suggest it. That is not what I meant. However your comments along with those of a few others did get me thinking about a more complete description of powers / characteristics / skills. I used Magneto as an easy option for description. Going back to your original posting when you mention Perception Manipulation, you inlude Precognition as a power that could be measured under this heading. Simply put what criteria could you use to measure Precognition - the amount of time it can see ahead, it's scope (one person vs many), geographic area of effect, it's accuracy. It is easy to put some powers under an umberella headings like Energy Control and Energy Emission, but you also have a significant number of powers that don't fall under a heading like Mental Shielding, like Prof X has and Mentallo does not (without the use of his SHIELD designed helmet). That then of course brings in the issue about how you would measure the strength of the aforementioned shielding to rank it. I have an idea about ranking mental abilities as a whole on 1 or 2 grids as there are many mental disciplines and this would measure a pyschic's true overall ability. Anyhow, this was a question about people's thoughts on the idea of ranking all powers and yes I am anal enough to have a created (many years ago) a complete listing of powers headings

Precognition should be ranked according to control. Take Spider-man and What If? Spider-man. Both have precognitive powers but one can only sense impending danger whereas the other can predict what is going to happen down to what someone is going to say.
Mental Shielding could fit under Perception Manipulation as both the attacker and the defender are attempting to alter the other's perception. Perception Manipulation, like energy manipulation, is simply a question of potential and training. Franklin Richards has unlimited psionic potential but he doesn't know how to use it so he can fall prey to attacks from Onslaught.
I wouldn't mind seeing your listing if you still have it.

I don't think the range of powers trying to be placed under 1 heading are best fits. I will continue to work through the lists I have and see how they stack up. As for my complete listing of powers, this was done 20 years agoand is on paper, in amongst my other files. I will dig it out, type it up and post it.

As mentioned on the Tier Rating thread, I plan to do a spin out 10 layer system for powerhouses that cannot be contained in the grids. I will do a little work on that concurrently with the grids and post some ideas later.

Here are some more cohesive thoughts on the powergrids incorporating a greater range of powers for rating, under some specific headings.
Some of the grids will list specific details like Strength. Others will simply be more around the level of characters by comparison. Some grids will have a combination of both.
The main grids are the numbered headings. The sub headings are listed by the o. Then there are further subdivisons. I will try and tidy this up tomorrow.
Yay for progress!
1. Strength o TK 2. Movement Speed o Digging o Running o Flight o Teleportation o Swimming o Leaping 3. Endurance 4. Agility 5. Fighting Prowess o Physical „X H2H, Melee, Missile, Gun o Mental o Mystical 6. Energy Manipulation o Control o Emission 7. Matter Manipulation o Control „X Shaping, Animation, Transmutation o Emission 8. Kinetic Durability o Blunt „X Body, Force Field, Armour o Sharp „X Body, Force Field, Armour 9. Energy Durability 10. Body Manipulation o Growth o Shrinking o Stretching o Shape Change o Mass Alteration o Invisibility o Matter Duplication o Energy Duplication / Vampirism o Duplication o Evolution 11. Body Enhancement o Senses o Regeneration o Immortality o Pheromones o Natural Weapons o Environmental Adaption o Energy Absorption 12. Intelligence 13. Mind Enhancement o Invention o Remote Sensing o Senses o Astral Travel o Precognition o Postcognition o Item Reading o Recall o Mental Shielding 14. Mental Manipulation o Telepathy o Telepathic Body Control o Empathy o Emotion Control o Memory Wipe o Psychic Blast o Hallucinations 15. Mystical Influence o Energy Source ¡V Internal vs. External o Senses o Power Simulation o Object Enchantment

I think it actually looks pretty awesome Creator.
With healing, I wonder if their might need to be sub-categories for that as well. What I mean is that there are some characters like Shatterstar that can heal pretty fast but he cannot replace missing organs.
Same with Deathstroke. The man supposedly heals really fast (maybe even organs, not sure on him) but he cannot repair nerve damage from what I understand.
While Ultimate Iron Man by OSC can heal just about anything as long as his body has processed enough energy from eating and drinking.
Then there are characters like Wolverine and Deadpool whose healing factors depend entirely on how much energy they have.

It should all fit under one table based on speed and extensiveness of the regen ability

I guess I did not really explain it well enough. Some characters heal fast but only heal certain things, some heal slow but can heal anything, some heal fast and heal anything and some heal slow and only heal certain things. It seems to me that there would need to be at least two categories. One for speed, one for how all encompassing the regen ability is.
Then there are things to consider like how they handle entire body damage. A great example is X-23 to Wolverine. X-23 heals faster than Wolverine due to not having her entire skeleton covered in adamantium but she cannot handle whole body damage anywhere near as well as he can. But they have the same exact healing factor, his is just more trained for whole body damage.

Well, I'd say at the end of the day the ranking is based on the overall effectiveness. Hypothetically speaking, even if Shatterstar or even Blade could heal faster than....Let's say Sabretooth....they would still be ranked less because his still works at a good speed and is capable of healing virtually all major organs.

you never cease to amaze me,Creator i am forced to agree with Erik btw I do not remember any forcing. I just put you in a nice, quiet room, with a burlap bag over your head, while binding your hands and feet and just really really strongly encouraged you to agree with me..... at gunpoint. This mirrors my thought process. By rating speed of regeneration vs scope of regeneration, which can be done on the same grid (by using a simple OR statement) we can answer this.

Additionally I thought of 1 other possible enhancement to the power grids.
We could use the ratings on the grids to provide an overall rating for each of the following characteristics: Physical, Mental and Mystical. These ratings come about from a weighting from the various power grids being rolled up. Might be a little bit tricky to balance it up but could prove interesting.

Oh and there are characters like Deadpool (and Wolverine to an extent) who can control and direct their healing factor by will.

I take your points on board Eric but lets see how the grid shapes up before we make any judgments.
I need to start populating some of the grids so I will begin to ask for example lists of characters i.e. Characters that have the growth power, and I will ask for the following,
1. Character name 2. Brief 2 line description / display of maximum use of the power (that was not augmented by an outside source and was representative of the characters ability) 3. Scan to show maximum power use (if possible)
The lists of characters don't just need to the most powerful demonstrators of this power but any character that displays it.
Any questions ?

Call for Info
First power up I need plenty of character examples for is Regeneration The characters can be from Marvel, DC etc,
So people to supply might include Wolverine, Madcap, Spiderman, Lobo, Luke Cage, Ulysses Bloodstone, Ares, Dracula, Hulk etc
I may only need say 20 characters initially (of varying levels of Regnerative scope) to put some guidelines in to play.
Please remember, it's nice to get the following info package,
1. Character name 2. Brief 2 line description / display of maximum use of the power (that was not augmented by an outside source and was representative of the characters ability) 3. Scan / link to show maximum power use (if possible)

Just a friendly reminder, if someone selects Wolverine the "Nuke or Nitro recovery" feat no longer applies.
