So anyone else read Mighty Thor #3 and think Odin was full of !@#$ with his reasoning to Thor as to why Galactus wants the seed? On a side note: Loki made me proud. =)

On a side note: Loki made me proud. =) When I read that, the only thing I was thinking of was "Again Loki? Again?" I thought everything in that issue was just funny. Odin was all playin' dad, Thor and Norrin were all like the lil' kids gettin' into lil' skirmishes for not liking each other even though they're really bestest friends. It just felt like a real campy, family-oriented good time. Oh, and Volstagg the Valiant. Great stuff.

Damn good issue. Fraction is at top form since the Mighty Thor launch. This is the Thor comic I was expecting when Fraction was announced as the new Thor writer.
I agree Odin's explanation was false, but he obviously couldn't tell Thor he has an ulterior motive for wanting the Seed.
Seeing Surfer and Thor bickering was a delight because it was well written, but I question the characterisation of both of them (particularly Thor, since SS was initially trying to talk him out of it). I doubt they would normally decide to start punching each other so easily given their past. Or, maybe Thor's wound clouds his judgment in a way. The pain making him more irritable than normal.

The way I see it was like this. Norrin just got through with his mini, and the results of that sorta left him a lil' bit on edge. Thor just got through saying he had a bad day. Norrin comes to visit, he's a lil' on edge, and that puts Thor even more on edge, and they fight. Simple as that. Two bad days coming together. It was glorious.

Loki does what Loki must do, if he doesn't take a little off the top of Sif's hair as she is dreaming, he won't be that lovable Loki we care for. Someone had to defend Asgard from the good people of Broxton and Volstagg was the only one brave enough to do it as the rest of his buddies went off to be fodder against Galactus. Damn good issue. Well from what Thor shouted in the previous issue: He felt that Norrin was threatening Asgard, which he was, along with making demands of Odin. I think Thor's wound is hitting him with the stupid stick, as he keeps mentioning it but doesn't bother to ask Odin "Why is it doing that, am I supposed to bleed rainbows?". And having Donald twiddle his thumbs being a doctor and all ignoring Thor's walking around with this wound, doesn't bother to raise any concern over maybe asking Odin whats up with it or at least switching places with Thor till they can treat it so it doesn't worse.

I agree with Nexus and Hellos about why they were fighting.
#3 was a great issue, as this whole series has been so far. I seriously hope Fraction keeps up the quality even after this Galactus Seed arc is over.
I'm not so sure Odin was lying to Thor about the seed. I mean, it sort of makes sense. And this whole arc is called "Galactus Seed."

And this whole arc is called "Galactus Seed." Here is the problem with Odin's reasoning as for why Galactus wants the seed: Galactus as far as I've read has made no indication of wanting to live forever, just to serve his role in creation. Which requires him to make sure he survives, despite whatever cost. And while Odin is trying to play him off as wanting it purely for something selfish, Odin himself wants to use the thing to prevent Fear Itself( guess he fails to do so) calling it an egg that will give birth to everything anew, I don't buy that. Doesn't help when Odin drops any respect for the cosmic hierarchy by calling Galactus and his heralds thugs and bullies roaming the stars just to rally Asgard against them despite the majority of them all being fodder, it all seems inherently dishonest as he only has his own interests at heart. Current Odin seems a whole lot less noble than he used to be. Only the next few issues will tell us if he is being remotely honest about anything he has actually said so far, but I won't hold my breath.

I did recall Thor's phrase from the ending of # 2, but, be that as it may, I was actually expecting Thor to be the voice of reason towards a long time friend, as opposed to striking him from behind. Where is the honour in that? And what does the Odinson stand for, if not honour?
As for Thor being in a foul mood. It is true, and I mentioned it in my post. However, we do not know how much time has elapsed in between the ending of the Surfer's mini series and this story. The Surfer mini takes place immediately after Chaos War (and based on the series of events, the gap between beginning and ending is small) while this story takes place before Fear Itself. The Surfer is seen soaring space when he senses the Seed on Asgard, so it is more than fair to say he had time to cope with any emotional issues he may have had due to Suzie. Adequately, or not, it is unlikely the experience was fresh (say, days old).
Still, it is a minor point and I agree the encounter was satisfying to read.

All an' all, it was really, really funny, and I'd like to see more of that epicness in the soon to be climactic show down.

The one hang up I did have about what Surfer said was that the seed could feed Galactus for eternity. Now, we all know that Galactus' role in the universe is to consume to maintain balance. We know that Galactus knows that. But if he were to solely feed on the seed for the rest of eternity, he would no longer have a place in the universe. So this leads me to believe that the Surfer is not quite telling the whole truth as to why Galactus wants the seed. Which in turn leads me to believe that Odin is in fact, telling the truth, at least to some extent.

Still, it is a minor point and I agree the encounter was satisfying to read. I don't know you could take Thor's defensiveness and relentless attack in a number of ways. One him wanting to preserve what is left of his home and protect his people from the herald of Galactus. Another being wounded he couldn't afford to casually let the Surfer make threats and went at full force from the start like a cornered animal. Or heck he hasn't fought the Surfer in a while and wanted to duel with him to check out if he is still ontop, deciding the best way to get him riled was nailing him in the back with Mjolnir. But overall Thor never needs a good excuse to duke it out with folks he's known a lot longer than Norrin. =P Although I have to agree as Suzie likely having nothing to do with this as Fraction likely hasn't taken any of Pak's story to account in that confrontation / angry Norrin. The one hang up I did have about what Surfer said was that the seed could feed Galactus for eternity. Now, we all know that Galactus' role in the universe is to consume to maintain balance. Which in turn leads me to believe that Odin is in fact, telling the truth, at least to some extent. I don't know about that, Galactus throughout the years has had a bag of roles for his existence, for being the tool to keep Abraxas imprisoned, to maintaining the cosmic consonance, to being the next following big bang/replacing eternity and so on to Pak's more inclusion of Galactus' role to keep creation from crumbling in on itself. That and Galactus already tried to end his dependence on planet devouring in that whole Hunger arc with Thanos if I recall. The guy bears a tremendous amount of guilt over what he does and he contemplated just sitting on his rear waiting to die before Death literally gave him a pep talk. The Surfer himself believes in what he says, even if he wasn't, regardless of the motivation of acquiring it, you would have no doubt of the Silver Surfer's belief for whatever purpose serves the greater good by acquiring it for Galactus.

Honestly, I doubt either Odin, or Galactus have been entirely truthful to Thor, and SS, respectively. I think Odin's most honest moment was likely when he told SS "What you don't know could fill the void of space" or something to that effect, hinting that there are greater forces at work here.
As for Galactus and the Seed sustaining him forever - that doesn't mean Galactus is on the wrong, and/or lying. Galactus, unlikely as it may sound, despite all his grandeur, loathes himself. He would never admit it to anyone, but it is true. He has been haunted for millenia by his acts, and has attempted various times to find a solution for his hunger. Case in point, during Thanos # 1-6, the major plot point was that Hunger tricked Galactus into believing he could sate his hunger forever, and as such, stop massacring worlds. Galactus was so genuinely passionate about being redeemed, that he grew careless and didn't notice Hunger was manipulating him behind the scenes to his own ends.

I didn't think I'd ever say this, but I kind of miss Kieron Gillen. Don't get me wrong, Fraction is arguably Marvel's premier writer at the moment, but there was something about Gillen's plot structure, particularly regarding Marvel's godly characters, that I came to respect.

I don't get why that's so hard for you to say. Gillen had a pretty great run when he was on Thor.

Judging from the preview Thor's looking like he might get himself some blur speeding combat going on with Norrin. Does make me wonder exactly how much of a fight we will see from Odin and Galactus.

The Mighty Thor #4 was interesting. Wonder if Big G is dead or out of commission or something.
Aside from the fact the other Asgardians aside from Odin and Thor did absolutely nothing, I really appreciated Sif's questions to Thor in the beginning of the book. How do people like Galactus and Odin fight? Glad Fraction brought this issue up, but then all they did was a TP battle...sigh. Thor and SS didn't even really clash. I was hoping for an all out kind of battle but eh. I guess we'll see what happens next issue.

Impossible as it may sound (given that the issue was heavily - very heavily - advertised as Thor vs SS), I found the Odin/Galactus aspects far more interesting (mostly because Thor and SS didn;t do much against one another). It's intriguing to delve more to their minds and see what makes such vastly powerful beings tick. The TP battle route was rather unexpected, but still a welcome alternate course over blasting and punching.
As for Thor vs Surfer, for God's sake Norrin, stop asking Thor to stop every two minutes and fight! I was actually glad when Thor told SS to shut up.

Yeah like I said I thought it was interesting too, but after the first page I was just expecting them to use a bunch of different crazy powers on each other. TP was still cool though. Lol yes! SS is being such a baby. Thor told him to shut up, and even SILENCE! Haha. What do you think happened/will happen with Galactus?

I think he was staggered by Thor's blow due to being so immersed in his TP battle with Odin. I doubt SS would leave his side if he was seriously injured. SS and Thor crash landing on Mars all the while the fight started above Earth was a mad durability feat, though.
