This does not mean much. It's out of character. People acknowledge that it happened but this does not make it in character. Quesada just created his own character in that even. He ignore spidey's morals and what he has done for so many years. It's just out of character. It won't be if they keep working and establishing it as something that happened and was in-character. The problem is that as the writers/editors have absolute power over what is in-character or not. No matter how much we as readers may feel screwed by it. And there comes a point where the new version becomes the "real" one if you will. This is the same thing that happened with Deadpool, Squirrel Girls and Animal Man. What they are now is totally different then what they were when they started. Spidey was not aware of anything like that. Even he stated that he did not understand how these things would work. So it will be hard to imagine that Mephisto would gain evil powers over other lives..... Of come on now, he gave Mephisto the power to rewrite reality. Peter knows who Mephisto is he's hung out with Doctor Strange, Blade, Thor. He knows Mephisto is the devil. He knows how Mephisto operates and what his goals are. The only ethical choice would have been for him to give Mephisto the middle finger. Also, no offence, you are acting like Quessada. You are ignoring what Pete has done all these years and you keep calling him selfish? No I'm not. I know all the great heroic things he's done in the past. But that single moment was evil on a scale that stains him forever. There is no wiggling out with handing Mephisto the keys to the Marvel Universe. Mephisto is cosmic evil incarnate. And he did it all for his selfish wants. I really don't care about this. I blame writers and especially Queassada. Pete is not even close to being responsible for anything that happened in OMD. So do I, out of story. Of course it's Quesada and the writers fault. But iin-story Peter still did it. And if the team sticks to their guns and doesn't wipe that stain with a retcon. The result will be when the old Peter will be a memory and the new one will be a character that will make deals with the Devil. If by saving million of lives by a bomb and stuff like that is how they will make OMD part of Pete's personality then they failed. I don't thing you understand my point about writer power and characters being forever changed. Characters do change to a point where they are forever unrecognizable if the writers keep hammering and cementing the change. |

OK, i don't see how we will come to agreement with that. I don't understand how this makes OMD part of Pete's characters. Peter has never dealt with demon after that and current spidey didn't even make a deal with a demon at all. It was just a moment out of character and nothing more. By builting a universe onit it does not make it in character. You just built a universe on an out of character move. That's all.
And again Pete has stated that he did not understand how that works. And added to all these, he felt guilty for so many deaths like his uncle's or Gwen's. He found the chance to save one life, he had his wife trying to convince him etc...All that affected the way he thought and it was still out of character.
The new one never makes deals with the Devil actually. Anyway, i only blame the writers because the put spidey out of character, so why should i blame Pete since obviously this was not Pete?
Peter did not change though. Only for that moment he was out of character.

This issue seems awesome. At last writers gave the chance to Pete to show his high intellect again.
