I'll probably be picking this up too at some point. But it may not be for a couple months or something.

Man, those MegaTroll pics were great. Loved every last one of 'em. You saw that Thor's ending got updated, too, right? Capcom's so funny. When my Megaman fan friend saw that, he got so upset. Glorious. Anyway, just a few more days. I've been enjoying the mess outta vanilla. Still am honestly, and after my boy Royal Flush gave us some great insight to how Thor got buffed, I'm super excited. youtu.be/8KdRVc99yvoDon't care how it's gonna play out, havin' Thor, Strange, an' Nova on the same team is gonna be so boss like.

Yeah, it's tough to resist the Ultimate deal (seeing as it's even cheaper than the original game, haha), but there's too much competition right now for me to really rush out and get it right when it hits shelves.

Yeah,i just checked it out,Capcom is hilarious. Hum....lets see..... Tron and Zero are in,but Megaman isnt. The new Megaman Legends stage is frozen (get it? Megaman Legends 3 is canceled). Zero`s DLC costume is Megaman X. One of Zero`s quotes is something like ``If X was here,he would try to talk things first, unfortunately for you,X isnt here`` Frank West`s DLC costume is a Megaman costume. Megaman`s picture appears in the new X-Men stage. Thor`s new ending. Damn,Capcom is really trolling it`s fans. ;D I am going to buy the DLC and make a Team Megaman.... Zero (X alt costume), Frank West (Megaman costume) and Tron, just for the lols. I gotta learn how to play with Zero and Tron though

Once I figured a bit how to play, it was a lot of fun. I couldn't beat Galactus on Very Easy difficultly though because I don't understand what to do really. I can tell once you can memorize all your characters' moves, it becomes much easier, as well as linking them together. I was using Nova, Thor, and Iron Fist (my 3 favorite characters )

Yep, so I got this game see. I dunno if you guys heard of it, but it's pretty cool. I like it a lot. I really like it a lot. I been playin' since I opened up the package. I'm lovin' the Thor changes. He's much more mobile, his moves recover faster, all those resets he's known for got better, plus the fact that you can X-Factor in the air really up'd his game.
And then there's this Doctor Strange dude. I don't really know much about him. I think he's a spell caster or a magician or somethin'. Yeah, he's crazy fun. Gonna take a while before I really crack him open an' unlock his potential, but I'm likin' what I'm seein' so far. Him not havin' an air dash will take some gettin' used to though.
Then we get to Nova. Man, he's like some space cop, right? Green Lantern? Yeah, he's really good. Straight forward, intuitive, but still requires some timing to get his stuff goin'. I really like his combos, an' that red life thing of his is beastly.
That's pretty much my new team for this game. My other two mains from vanilla, Dormammu an' Doom, I'm still lookin' for a point character to put with 'em. My friend suggested MODOK, and I'm pretty tempted to do it, but it'll take me a while to learn how to use him. Dorm an' Doom are so good though, so it's all good.
If you guys wanna hit me up for some games on the weekend, you know my PSN is LegendaryDJ.

ckal, now that you're a fan of both, which gameplay style do you prefer (this vs MK9)? I want to like this game, I really do. The opportunity to play as so many of these characters from Marvel and some like Wesker/Nemesis/Chris/Akuma are so tempting, but the game's feel just doesn't sit right with me

katz-
Is there anything in particular you are unsure about? I know you mentioned feel, and that's exactly how I felt about it beforehand, but I decided to give it a shot. I'll lay out a bunch of points, and hopefully I can give you enough info from a noob/newbie neutral perspective.
I got this game for the same reasons as you, the Marvel characters, some of which are my favorites. As well as classic characters like Ryu, along with Akuma, Chris, Dante, Wesker, Haggar, etc. This game is definitely a lot of fun, and it certainly does have a different feel from MK9 from what I recall (I haven't played MK9 in a long time).
It takes a little getting used to at first, but it's not all that hard to pick up the basics. The inputs for combos is pretty similar with a lot of the characters (that I've tried at least), so you don't really need to remember a ton of different directional and button inputs for every character. There are a few different ways you can swipe/turn your joystick, and along with a button press they make a combo. Every character has a few of these basic combo inputs. The style of attacks is very clean cut as (for 360), X, Y, and B, are all attack buttons, but with varying degrees of power. X=Light, Y=Med, B=Heavy. They intentionally try to make it more simple, because so much is going on and the speed of play is intense. Another thing is that it makes it very easy to jump into new players and do moves and combos with them without needing to spend a long time reading combo lists or training with them. This is something I really appreciate and like, because that's the problem I've had with fighting games in the past, like MK9. There is a lot more team play and team combos (as it looks like you always play with 3 to a team), and it creates some great action.
You will find yourself frantically moving your hands over the controller many times, but it's fast pace never seems to really get out of control or completely lose me (on higher difficulties I'm sure it's crazy). I've only played it for a bit for a few days, and I'm still learning. I can tell that while it is not hard to pick up basics (the game is still a ton of fun while you aren't that good), it will take time to become very good at it. Timing and speed, as well as knowledge of characters and teamwork seem to be pretty essential. I've been playing on Very Easy mode for Arcade and I finally beat Galactus (Big G was the only thing giving me trouble) who took a good chunk of time to figure out.
One thing I would really recommend is to take some characters you want to play with to the training mode and mission mode for a while to learn their moves and what they play like. I would also strongly recommend reading through the game manual, it is very helpful when it comes to moves and combos individually and with a team.
I've only played it for a few days like I said, but so far I think this is a better fighting game than MK9. It is drastically different, but I favor this more as I think the experience is a lot more fun and exciting. In the end, this is a great game, and I've had a blast playing it so far, especially now that I'm getting the hang of it.
Anything else specifically you want to know/ask?

He's no match for the combined might of the Nova Force and the Odin Force. lol Anyway, while playing online in a lobby, some guy decided to do a live stream, so I got recorded in action. Did some digging around on the internet and found an archive of the stream, so if you guys wanna check out how great I am at this game (*spoiler* not that great), then check me out here. www.twitch.tv/xxupyourgamexx/b/300449582I think that's me, right? LegendaryDJ: part one at 1:01:28 part two at 11:05, 24:24, 29:26, 40:42, and 53:31 part three 12:57, 20:57, 28:01, and 34:38 (after seein' all those fights against that kitty, you'll see why I liked this fight the most).

Alright, so I've given MvC3 a proper sit down to learn how to legitimately compete and play well instead of... ya know, button mashing and such. Just like MvC2, it's fun and easy to play, but I really wish it was packed with more content. If you're not going to play pvp online or have buddies over a lot, there really isn't much at your disposal. Oh well, I guess that's expected with fighting games, but I was hope the bar will be raised next time with all that MK9 had to offer.

Ha ha, that's a pretty interesting mentality. Well yeah, like you said, that's what's to be expected of fighting games. They're definitely not made for single player content, and what's funny is most fans of the genre actually wanna keep it that way. Their mentality is that throwing in a bunch of more content and modes is just simply fluff and really takes away from the most important aspect of the game, and that's gameplay and balance, sayin' things like they'd much rather have a fighter with only a training and versus mode than something with things like a legit story mode or achievement thing or model viewer or gallery or anything else to appease the casual gamer. And the casual gamers are interesting too because they feel like the game's not even complete if there isn't all the extra stuff to go into it. I don't even know where I stand on it, but it's a pretty cool thing to take note of. Especially when you ask the question, "which group of gamers actually keep the genre going?" Casual gamers being the big majority of people who buy games in general are a pretty big market for companies to pass up on, but the competitive gamers are the ones that stick with the genre throughout everything and actually keep the community going with it. Interesting. That's the only word I can think of.

Yup, if people keep buying it then there's no real need to switch it up. I would just personally like it if the next effort brings more to the table. It's fun once you get the hang of it, but it really is limited if you're not completely into the competitive online aspect... That said, it's totally understandable that online competitive is the main appeal, however having some content on the side is a nice offer, ya know? I love all of the little things, like the bios they offered and such.
I was talking to people about work regarding this (Street Fighter/MvC3 fans) and they wholeheartedly agreed. They thought MK9 was the better game because it shocked us with a legitimate story mode, massive challenge ladder, the bonus region, and more to offer people who weren't all about online competitive modes. That said, they think MvC3 is more fun, but were disappointed with the lack of options.
Oh, and does Thor's speech increase your meter/health or something? I haven't tried it in combat, only training mode.

It's not just online that's the competitive side of things. (Online's mostly a joke in this game), but there are actual tournaments. People goin' places playin' for money an' junk. Pretty interesting to watch. Definitely fun to participate in. That's the fighting game community, and it's those people that're the backbone of the genre. www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZT4H46XP28&feature=mfu_in_order&list=ULI know I'm not that big into things outside of the game. Maybe for some down time, but even when I didn't have people to play with online or otherwise, I'd just be playin' in training mode just to see what I could do. I enjoyed readin' up on the stories of the characters and such, but I'd get most of that online off of wikipedia. And yeah, Thor's Mighty Speech increases his meter. It's generally something you don't wanna try in combat because no one's gonna let you do it.

...I'm aware of tournies. You brought up the general audience, and for most people the multiplayer (be it local or online) is obviously the biggest appeal. Just saying I'd love for the next effort (which likely will be a decade away) to be packed with more content.
I figured that's what happened with Thor's speech, but I can't see anyone logically having an opening long enough for it to be that effective....or...for a lack of better words, mighty.
