Easily the two most popular fighters on consoles right now... Which game do you think is superior and why?

Damnit, I am discontent with just the demo. I'm going to rent mk9 TONIGHT. I've always preferred street fighter game mechanics better than mortal kombat but both are great fighters. I'd have to choose mvc3, though.

Why do you pick MvC3?

Overall faster gameplay, nostalgic value, and like I said I like the street fighter game mechanics more than the mk mechanics.

I get nostalgia from both since I grew up playing both franchises.

Mk was too slow for my preferences when I was younger. I was drawn to the flashiness and the characters of the sf games.

MvC takes this easily for me. As far as fighters go in general, Mortal Kombat was always my least favorite out of the bunch. More often then not, I'd get bored during the game play whether I'm winning or losing. Maybe it's because of the general pace of the game, maybe it's because of the way combos are done in the game, and yeah as far as fatalities an' junk is concerned, it's dope, but after I turned about 14, seeing a guy getting his spine ripped out just didn't do it for me anymore. Playing through the latest game, my experience and impression hasn't really changed. Overall, MK is just too basic for my tastes.
I've been having much more fun with Marvel vs Capcom 3. Faster pace, wider variety, crazy combos, fun characters, the only thing that would make it the perfect fighter in my book is if there was a better single player thing.

MvC3 looks cool but I'm a little nervous I would have a seizure while playing it.

It may cause you to seizure, but it will be the best seizure of your life.

Marvel versus Capcom for me is easily better.

As only a casual fighting genre fan, the MK franchise is far more appealing to me.

As only a casual fighting genre fan, the MK franchise is far more appealing to me. I agree. MvC3 looks incredibly complex, at least compared to MK. Looks to appeal more towards the hardcore fighter gamer.

I think it would be a lot better if they included training scenarios to work the characters that don't require you to look back and forth from the menu to learn how to play them, but some people really pick it up and play like pros.

Which is funny because despite its simplicity, Mortal Kombat goes out of its way to make sure you pratice all of the basics in various modes (training has a walk through, story forces you to play multiple characters, and challenge ladder forces you to perfect some moves).

In MK you actually need to know the button progressions in order to execute the moves, whereas in MVC all the characters moves are pretty much the same.

Some moves are FAR more complex when it comes to controls and juggling can be more difficult to accomplish in MvC, imo.
