If I recall correctly, someone said, "Maybe it is because you are a girl." which is not definitive. It is just a guess. I cannot remember if it was Goku or not but I think it was him. Goku is the absolute last person in the Dragonball series I would want educating me on genetics.

LOL, I don't think it was Goku who stated that and i don't think that the reason was the because she was a girl. I think i should check the fight with Baby Vegeta again. =]

Please do and educate us. I only saw a clip that stated it and that was a long time ago. I have not watched many episodes.

I truly believe that no one as went a female super saiyan so she needs to obtain it. And if its not, then I think it should be.

I mean the reason that people below Goku and Vegeta can go Super Saiyan because they inherit the saiyan gene passed through the Y chromosome. And the reason why Pan can't go Super Saiyan is because no one before her has gained the Super Siayan gene, in terms of a female.
That any clearer?

It does not make a bit of sense to me. Why would it be a genetic trait when several saiyans that are completely unrelated have been able to do it? It is just accessing a certain power within. It is a chi based change. Genetics make no sense to factor into the equation. Goku, Vegeta and Broly have no known connection to the legendary super saiyan.

Vegeta said it's passed down through genetics when he realised that Trunks was his son. Why not pass through the Y and X chromosomes? You've never seen a female Super Saiyan, so that's my theory. It may not be true. And for the Broly thing, its not part of the series. They're not canon linked. So that sections irrelevant.

According to Vegeta, only 1 super saiyan should exist every 1000 years anyway. If genetics had anything to do with it, that would be pointless. GT is about as canon as the movies from what I understand so I include them. Even if we dropped Broly though, it still would not add up because Goku and Vegeta would have to be related. It only makes sense to me that it is a chi-based power, just like it is indicated for the transformation to be necessary. Power. Significant levels of power as well as drive. Goten and kid Trunks were both insanely powerful at that age, which is what I would say allowed them to access the super saiyan power. Gohan, Vegeta and Goku had considerably less power than Goten and Trunks had at that age.

That 1000 years was thrown out of the window because they revealed how you can become a super saiyan. The 1000 years was just a tale with no substance because later on it was revealed that the saiyan race only came into technology while King Vegeta siege on Planet Vegeta while the former race were in control. Vegeta explained that the power was to much for this person and explored. So why is there planet still there at the time? With that amount of power was released the planet would have blown up also.
The reason for the kids being powerful was because they had the Super Saiyan gene when they were born. That ability gives you a boost in power.

Goku and Gohan also has the super saiyan gene and they were worthless (Gohan berserker mode aside) as children. Assuming genetics have anything to do with it at all. If the super saiyan was about genes, then Vegeta should have had it from childhood as well because he was among the strongest saiyans as a child.

No one passed on the Super Saiyan gene in the Saiyan history. Any Saiyan can go a Super Saiyan including the as your phrased it "worthless" ones. It's just that once a person goes it they can pass it on through there chromosomes. Y=Male, X=Females. Goku and Vegeta turned Super Saiyan and their children (bar Gohan because he was born before Goku went Super Saiyan) could go Super Saiyan.
You know this is just my theory and what I go by. None of this has been proven if that's what you were thinking?

If super saiyan was a genetic trait, then Goku would have had it from birth. That being said, he should have been able to access it without having to gather strength first (which he had to do). There is no way it was something that Goku had to access first in order to pass on to his children. That is not how genetics work (no I am not a geneticist but this is just basic stuff).

Colour blindness is passes on through the Y Chromosome. Colour blindness doesn't affect woman. Genetics can work like that.
Think of it as the power is there and the only way to get that power is if someone gets it, once he or she has got it, it can be passed down through his or her genetic system. And if both of them obtain the power then the power can be passed down through both genetics of male and female.
For example: Neo was the one from birth but couldn't obtain his power until Trinity told him of her love for him.

the reason Pan isnt a super saiyan is because not only GT is non-cannon,Akira Toryama didnt know how to properly drawn a female super saiyan (IIRC),if DB gets a cannon sequel,it is likely Pan is gonna become a super saiyan or something similar
IIRC,didnt Pan beat Goten in a tournament?
