Ah that's too bad, issue 2 just continues the intro focusing on Raph and introducing Casey.

Who's the main villain so far?

The main villain, if you can call it that, is Old Scab a mutated alley cat with a beef with Splinter with splinter for reasons not yet shown in the comic. We did see the Foot in the flashback of their origin, where we also see April O'Neil. But so far they haven't reached their transformation yet in the new comic or explained why Scab hates Splinter.
We do also see Baxter Stockman in flashback and he has a call from general Krang. Which is entirely weird if you know your TMNT lore.

When it comes to the Turtles, my interest in them peaked during my childhood. So, it all stems from the 90s cartoon, movies, toys, etc. When I got back into comics (perhaps 5-6 years ago), I checked out a little bit of the first Turtles series, but nothing more.

Well Krang was a creation for the 90's kiddy tv show. So having Stockman talk to Krang on the phone was weird because original comic lore doesn't have Krang.

I remember Krang from the cartoon (how could I not? haha), but I assumed your remark had something to do with comic continuity.

I remember Krang from the cartoon (how could I not? haha), but I assumed your remark had something to do with comic continuity. No and also yes. In comics, the Utrom aliens (which is what Krang was a pastiche off) were a peaceful alien race. However he never came into contact with the Utroms.

So, this is a whole new continuity which has loose connections to the latest animated (or upcoming?) show?

So, this is a whole new continuity which has loose connections to the latest animated (or upcoming?) show? The writers and editors have stated it's a completely new setting that takes inspiration from all previous TMNT material with new things (like Old Scab the cat, whom I honestly wasn't impressed with yet)

Hope the Shredder is at least half as awesome as he was in the 2003 show and that Karai and Hun appears too.
Hun was so awesome, never got the respect he deserved from the audience however.

I read #1 but I did not see #2 was out yet. Going to have to go pick that up.

Well the first issue did not give a lot of info really. So it was hard to say.

True, thought that's kind of expected since the origin is spread out over a few issues and they want to keep their cards for future arcs.
Hun totally needs to be in the comic thought.

I will say that there was nothing that I disliked.

Never watched the series to really care either way. It is too hard to tell if he has his hair pulled back or if he has a mullet. If the latter, I sincerely hope he does not show up in the rebooted comics.
