THOR-In combat, Adam Warlock states, "Thor moves like the lightning he commands, much quicker than I remember."
Thor vs Quicksilver
-Initially, Thor shoots a bolt of lightning at Quicksilver, which he apparently dodges with ease.
-Next, Thor rushes Quicksilver faster than he can react, and hits the ground underneath him, causing him to fly back and fall on the ground.
-Thor also states "I have vanquished fleeter foes than you, before your kind was blessed with the divine spark!"
-Thor has seemingly moved faster than lightning in this sequence.
Thor vs Pheonix
-"A telepathic bolt of unmentionable fury instantly races towards the still groggy Avenger (Thor)."
-When it is only a meter or so (your welcome Mr. Metric
) from his face..... "But then, with reflexes honed in a thousand deadly battles, the Mighty Thor instinctively raises his hammer!"
-He then reversed Pheonix's own blast, which KO'd her.
-The bottom panel states Juggernaut did this, but it is clearly a typo.
-Thor catches an artillery shell.
-This is back from one of Thor's earliest appearances (dialogue is pretty funny).
-Here, Magnir was controlling Thor's hammer.
-Micro seconds before Mjolnir cleans Thor's clock, he decides he needs to knock out Magnir, which releases his control over the hammer.
-Thor punches Magnir out, then catches Mjolnir, in the span of a few micro seconds.
-Thor and the Human Torch have to stop lava from a volcano that is going to destroy a city below.
-Thor decides he needs to divert the lava with a ditch.
-"Then, almost faster than mere mortal eyes can follow, the God of Thunder carves an awesome scar into the mountainside--"
-It is even more impressive considering the sheer amount of area Thor had to cover, and that the lava looked pretty close to the edge of the cliff to begin with.
-Thor deflects/destroys an artillery shell from what seems to be 5-7 meters away
-Thor also didn't know what to expect from the cannon, and didn't know it would shoot a shell at him
Thor vs. Hela
-Start of the fight
(cont.)
-Hela attempts to steal Thor's soul with a touch
-Thor dodges her touch by jumping over it and says, "Too slow, Death Goddess!"
(cont.)
-After dodging Hela's touch, Thor hits Hela away
-States she cannot touch him because "for mine is the swiftness of the very lightning itself!"
-Hela states, "His speed, his anger, are beyond comprehension!" "I cannot stop him, I cannot touch him!"
-Hela runs away
Thor/Hermes
-For a few issues, Hercules was hospitalized on Earth.
-Thor is in the room being accused by the nurse that he stole away Herc at night (it was actually Hermes. She saw a silhouette of him, and it looked like Thor).
-They were talking, Thor looks out the window, then suddenly flies out saying that he will solve the mystery.
(cont.)
-Captain Marvel flies out to follow Thro
-Panel shows Thor seemingly attacking a tree saying, "Scoundrel, you shall not escape me for long!"
-Captain Marvel thinks Thor is just hitting a tree out of anger
-Thor says "I intended to smite more than a mere tree, Marvel. Did you not see--?" "No...no of course you didn't! No human eyes could!"
-(Thor attempted to hit Hermes with Mjolnir but missed)
-(artist depicted Hermes moving so fast a human could not see, so he was not drawn, plus it is still a mystery to the reader at this point who/what it is and going on).
(cont.)
-Thor teleports himself to Olympus
-Thor spots Hermes again (now depicted because no humans around and to give the answer to the reader)
(cont.)
-Thor catches Hermes, grabs him, and throws him to the ground
During this sequence, Thor was able to easily spot, follow, react to, and catch a being that moved far faster than any other person could see.
In closing, this should be sufficient evidence that Thor can
at least move and react as fast as lightning. It should also prove that Thor is not just some slow brick that many people care to label him as, and that he wouldn't just automatically lose or be helpless to against someone who is fast. It seems like if he needs to use his super speed and reaction, he will, otherwise he won't as to make things a fair fight, like he seems to like. I realize the majority of these showings are old, but writers typically do not show Thor showcasing his speed and reaction time almost at all anymore, similar to how they forget about a lot of his powers and abilities. This may also have to do with his warrior and honor mentality towards battle, and the fact that he seems to like a fair fight, but we won't know for sure since the writers don't seem to want to address it.
I'm sure there are more out there, but without further research, reading, and hunting, this is all I can get for now. If I find something else, I will definitely make another post.
