I never said it was a reset button, just a fresh start.
I think what probably bugs me the most about Fraction's Iron Man, is that he constantly presents him from a single viewpoint: Tony as a futurist. That's it. He's never down, he's never out, he's always looking ahead, he's always predicting the future, he's always looking forward to it, he's always clawing his way out of a hole without a moment's respite, he's never looking back, he's just looking ahead. Even during Disassembled when he was at his lowest he's never fettered, he's never stumped, he's literally burning out his brain but it's okay, he's got it all figured out already. He's gonna be cool, he has a future, he just needs a little luck getting there. Not once are his failings reflected one, not once does he turn back, not once is his responsibility and failure to live up to it addressed. It's like he's trying too hard to show us how smart Tony is. And, I mean that's fine, that is a pretty major part of his character, but it's not the only one, and it basically the one angle I've seen Fraction write him from. 5 nightmares was good (And to be clear, I didn't say I didn't like 5N or Most Wanted or Disassembled, I just think they're overhyped) is that for once Tony looked into the future and it wasn't something he liked.
Compare to Vol 4 which presented a much more rounded Tony. A Tony which admittedly looked back way to often, but one who could look forward, and still had the same flare for futurism as ever. Vol 4 made me love Tony in a way vol5 never could.
