@morpheus: My mistake then. What issue was that stated in again? I believe it has been stated twice, once during Galactus, the Devourer, and secondarily in Beta Ray Bill: Godhunter. It is also stated during Annihilation: Nova Corps Files.
There are contradictions in between stories, though. Godhunter states that if Galactus dies, life in 42 light-years will subsequently perish as well, but he did die during Galactus the Devourer, and nothing of the kind happened (even though they did channel his energies to avoid disaster).
His most fundamental role seems to be to ensure that Abraxas does not escape.

@morpheus: Alright. Thanks for clearing that up.
Who is your favorite writer for Surfer?

Yeah probably that and the like as well. I remember him saying he locked up Aegis and Tenebrous in the Kiln because they defied and would not follow cosmic consonance.

I loved JMS's take even though it only lasted for 4 issues, but it is out of continuity.
Ron Marz seems a somewhat obvious choice, too.
But if we count writers who have written him, but have not written his on-going, then Giffen all the way.

@morpheus: Good choices. Requiem was beautifully written. Props to JMS for that.

@morpheus: I hear that. Surfer is not at the top of my favorite character list, but his character has the level of depth I can appreciate. That was detailed perfectly in Requiem.

Surfer is one of my favorites in comics. From Marvel, he's in my top 3.

I think my problem with Galactus is simply that writers repeatedly try to justify his actions. I can never really look at a being who consumes the life energy on worlds as anything but a villain. Writers, however, have imparted in Galactus this status as a mandatory part of the universe. There was also the statement that if he were to die, all life in a certain number of lightyears would be destroyed. I like Galactus. I just like him more as an ally/enemy of Surfer than this essentially "I can kill planets, and there is nothing wrong with that because it's my God-given mission" character. I know I am oversimplifying that and making generalizations. Not trying to disrespect Galactus's character. Just making a point. Eternity given mission. All he has to do other then snack on planets is keep the Universe from going down the crapper till he goes BOOM and becomes the next universe's Eternity. He has his part to play in the grand scheme and it's why Death and Eternity are buddy buddy with him. Outside the whole wiping worlds of civilizations to feed his hunger, he usually tries to do some good at the very least. Like fighting the Cancerverse's invasion of 616 fighting from start of TI to finish or when he patches up Eternity from a coma via Gamora cosmic scapel. So you can argue he's the villian, but your going to see him fight the good fight to keep the universe from going to hell, regardless of the threat until his time comes to fulfull that purpose.

I thought about renaming an earlier thread of mine for this discussion, then I remembered Merc - eh, sorry - double-checks to see how he calls himself today - Hanamichi Sakuragi had created this one, so here it goes.www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=29854

I had my doubts about Segovia handling the art for this project, but his pencils seem very slick.
I'm also glad to see Pak so excited about this, he is at his best when he writes characters he is genuinely interested at.
Fingers crossed for the sales. Good to see there is an opening for this to become on-going.

It's Pak. I'd be disappointed if he was not to give his protagonist good feats. It's his trademark.

Which in Norrin's case isn't too bad considering with his power set it wouldn't be too tricky to make him look good doing something ridiculous.

Writers restrain themselves when it comes to the Surfer's powers, casually showing him blasting things and whatnot. They shouldn't. He has a vast array of abilities to use, so all it requires is a little imagination. Hopefully, Pak will bring that to the table. I have no doubt that he'll make good use of the Surfer in the long run, but it remains to be seen if he will employ the Surfer's versatility.

So I just took a look at the preview, did Norrin actually dump the extremely drained Galactus right into the sun to take a billion years off it's clock to feed Galactus?
Now don't get me wrong, Galactus has munched stars before, it's just a little suprising that Norrin would dump him in our star.
Although I do enjoy the fact that Pak actually leaves Galactus drained from Chaos War and didn't have Herc's Retcon fix him good as new.

@ Secretly Hellos (don't want to blow yout cover) -
I absolutely loved the issue, I don't want to say more as not to spoil it, but the pacing was marvelous and the artwork simply powerful. Pak managed to capture the Surfer's voice nearly to perfection (as opposed to other times he's written him), and the story could easily appeal both to long time fans and new readers. Hopefully, it will sell well and turn into an on-going.

Just read the first issue. The first thing that I ever read with him. It wasn't bad. I liked the art and the story seems interesting.
