Those two videos they released for this game are unbelievable. That just straight up needs to be a movie. Period.

The game looks awesome. My problem is that the story and characters are so unoriginal.

@silver in what way? I think it's as original as anything based in the SW Universe could be. Darth Malgus certainly looks very similar to Darth Vader but Darth Jadus looks pretty cool.
idk, there isn't really much more they branch out into while still delivering the kind of SW experience people expect.

Dane: The Emperor for one. I need to catch up with the timelines, but if I remember right, he survived for as long as he did because of cloning and transferring his Essence into clones. He just remained in hiding for a long time and then appeared to overthrow the Republic. He also has "moffs" working for him and Star Destroyers as his fleet (even though TotJ showed that time period as more ancient, which KOTOR ruined a little bit). Then there are the oddly stormtrooper-resembling Republic soldiers. It is just too much like the Galactic Empire. I actually have not read the TOR novels yet. They are not a high priority for me right now. I will probably read the Revan novel when that comes out though, since I like Karpyshyn and Revan. But TOR has bugged me a little because of similarities to the Rise of the Empire and Rebellion era.

@silver well I've never read that he used transfer essence. In the graphic novel it showed him as using a force technique to "hollow out" Sith Apprentices and essentially control them directly while remaining in his own body. I think it's more similar to SW: Legacy era with the One Sith. The Sith of TOR seem to be many and varied. I think it's pretty exciting because it's an era where Sith Trueblood are still around (and playable) and like KOTOR it's still largely unwritten so the direction it goes in could be very interesting.
I think the idea of Admirals, Regional Governors and Star Destroyers are just a part of Star Wars. All Sith Empires seem to have those. It's as much like the Galactic Empire as it is like the Sith Empire from KOTOR.
The Emperor is hardly the most interesting character imo. The devs have also stated that as a Sith player, in true Sith fashion you'll have the choice to either continue following your Sith Lord Master or fight him directly to take his place. Although I doubt you'll be able to kill the Emperor and become Emperor yourself I don't see his similarity to Palpatine as too much of a problem. Palpatine, afterall, was the very model of evil.

I think it's pretty exciting because it's an era where Sith Trueblood are still around (and playable) and like KOTOR it's still largely unwritten so the direction it goes in could be very interesting. I will take your word for it. Like I said, I need to catch up with the timelines, and I have not read too much of the material yet. Really, my issue is not with the game. I would love to be able to play a game as a Sith in species, not in belief. My concern is how this will impact continuity. The Sith species was supposed to be extinct around 1000 years before KOTOR and, thusly, around 1300 years before TOR. I think the idea of Admirals, Regional Governors and Star Destroyers are just a part of Star Wars. All Sith Empires seem to have those. It's as much like the Galactic Empire as it is like the Sith Empire from KOTOR. This is not really my point. Of course, Sith will possess military resources, such as capital ships, short-ranged fighter, and ranking officials. My problem is that this Sith Empire specifically has Star Destroyers, a type of capital ship that should not have been created for millennia. Also, the fact that they were referred to as "moffs" just seems to unoriginal to me. I never said he was the most interesting. I was just pointing out the uncanny similarities between him and Sidious.

@silver yeah, pretty much agreed on all points. But I'd like to play as a Sith Sorcerer and actually look similar to Naga Sadow. So I'm not complaining about the canon too loudly.
The unoriginality on names is a little bit of a let down but it's not a huge issue to me. I mean shit, DC Universe had the worst voice acting I have ever heard in a video game.
The Emperor does seem like a convenient Sidious clone but at the same time there is a lot of different directions the writers could go in so I'm mostly optimistic.

Rarr, I shouldn't have gone to check out all those trailers.
I really want to play it now, but I'll have to wait probably until the end of the year. Sadness.

LOL. You will just have to keep replaying KOTOR for now. The good thing about KOTOR I and II is that they have immense replay value.

And I really disliked KOTOR II's storyline. And seriously, first play through, as soon as I got off the Mining Facility I knew Kreia was a Sith. It wasn't even vaguely subtle.
"HELPING PEOPLE IS WRONG. DON'T DO IT."
Where my was my obvious counter-dialogue?
"YOU'RE AN EVIL, CRABBY OLD WHORE. GET THE FUCK OFF MY SHIP BEFORE I KICK YOU OUT AN AIRLOCK, BITCH."
completely missing from the options.

One of the complaints I have with KOTOR II is that Nihilus and Sion hardly ever appear. There was a cutscene that would have been in the game where Sion reports that he intends to sever his partnership with Nihilus, but it never made it in because of time constraints. That was the problem with it, really. Developers just had insufficient time to thoroughly input into the game the same amount of gampeplay options that the original had. I really liked it otherwise though. Considering it was an unfinished game, it was extremely good.

@silver I agree that it would have been 5x better if they were given more time to finish the game. But honestly "a wound in the Force"? Fuck off. Like a planet worth of people dying has never happened before?
Did any whiny baby wounds of the Force appear after Alderaan got blasted to pieces? No. Before that would be stupid.

Dane: I assume you were referring to Malachor, because Katarr was never a wound in the Force. The game did have a few too many of those: Malachor, the Exile, and Nihilus. I never took issue with the Exile or Nihilus being wounds in the Force, given the circumstances that caused them, those being that the Exile severed herself from the Force at the time of the Mass Shadow Generator's activation to survive its draining effects and that Nihilus somehow used an unusual version of Transfer Essence that allowed him to roam as a spirit in his armor. Just to help your case though, Ambria was virtually lifeless and barren because a dark side sorceress performed a ritual that swept its surface, as revealed in Path of Destruction; star systems were destroyed in Jedi Academy; the Jedi burned the surface of Yavin IV in TotJ: The Sith War by massive use of Wall of Light; gravimetric prototype machines crushed Taspan II to asteroids (referred to as the Big Crush) in Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor; Byss was blown up by the galaxy gun in Dark Empire; Sidious sent Force Storms to various worlds around the same time, etc, none of which resulted in a wound in the Force. So I can understand why would that would bother you.
